3 year/55000 service - Water Pump Leaking

Featured Replies

Hi all, car in for it's 3rd service - (Skoda 3yr old service deal £259). Dealer just phoned to advise that I've a leaking water pump which has contaminated the timing belt!!

Car 3 months out of warranty and Skoda have offered 45% contribution (my payment £276.00 though!).

A little stuck as the car is in the garage so work needs to be done, but have voiced my displeasure at the fact of just being out of warranty and in theory problem might of existed at 3yr MOT/healthcheck and wasn't picked up? This they deny as they state it's happened in the short term (surprise, surprise).

Either way, does this cost sound right or not?

Cheers

Andy

It sounds slightly too high.

I assume they are wanting to replace the cambelt and water pump? If so then the price for this is £459. Take off their 45% contribution means you should be paying £252.45.

I had my waterpump replaced recently and it was just under £400 at an independent VAG specialist, mainly labour as it's quite a big job to get at on the 1.8tsi - don't know what engine you have. Also that didn't include a belt change as it's a chain engine!

For interest sake mine did go quite suddenly from loosing no water to having to more or less pouring out as fast as I could top it up within the space of a couple of weeks.

Mine was about 7months out of warranty, didn't even think to try for a dealer contribution however it was also on 70k miles so I guess they'd have refused on that basis, that and I'd bought it at 3 years old from an independant dealer.

Yes both the belt and water pump are being replaced - car is a 1.6 CR TDI (2012) - on the face of it not too much over.

You'd be due a cambelt change next year anyway (4 year interval).

When doing the cambelt it is always advisable to replace the waterpump at the same time.

So next year you would be faced with a potential bill of £459.

This current solution gets you the belt a year early and for almost half price.

No brainer in my eyes.
