Little box thing by the gear gaitor

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've exported a 1.9 TDI Skoda Octavia from UK. It's in great condition internally except for the box that is by the gear stick remains open. I've tried to find any way I can to fix it but have had no success. Could anyone direct me how best to do this?

Thanks

A picture would be helpful? I think though your on about the ashtray which is common for failing. I read somewhere that an owner cut two small squares of Velcro and used that to keep it shut. Otherwise it's a secondhand part that's fully working.

Hope that helps?

Heh sounds like the ashtray, which probably means the little peg has broken off the mechanism. Its a doddle to fix, there is a guide on Briskoda somewhere but I'm posting from my phone so its a bit of a mission to copy you a link. Do a quick search on Octavia 1 ashtray fix or something and you'll find it.

Definitely been covered. Somebody also got a copule of tiny but strong magnets and glued them in to do the job too.

Other option is find a scrapyard with a dead octy and take it out if it works.

I saw someone using small neodymium magnets superglued to the underside of the lid and the base. You can get the off Amazon, if you dont fancy pulling it apart

Yeah, the ashtay is what I meant. I will take it apart and see if theres anything broken under the lid. I don't actually open it much so putting some velcro there may also work the trick.
