Hi guys

Just a quick question had any one tried putting a bike engine into fun ?

Or is it best to go down the route of 1.4-1.6 lumps

I was thinking once about that too. Buy I abandoned the idea.

Bike engines have good torque and power at very high rpm.

They are designed for very light frames.

Basically a Felicia with a bike engine would be lazy while the engine would scream unbearably.

Bike engines definitely have thier place, but not in a road car, I reckon you'd last about a few hours before the noise drives you mad and you wanted to get rid of it. for a road going car you need something a little more civilised. The tried and trusted method of the 1.4 16v engine is worth a shot, but there is lot of engine choices out there, I would like to see a 2.0 ford zetec engine go into a felicia.

I was thinking more like a boggo 2.0 engine from a scrap focus, they are cheap and plentiful, they do exactly what they do and super reliable.

CVH Zetec lump are cheap as well and if hands on can do most of the work themselves. I still miss my Series One Escort Turbo with one of those in it, green injectors, T34 turbo (if I recall correctly) and fiesta turbo fuel rail. That was a fun car to drive. :)

 

But 2.0 Focus lump would be easier to get running for sure, possibly a Mondeo lump would also be plenty on the ground.

I think that you should take into consideration how a bigger engine would affect the driving experience.

The front suspension and the steering will be under heavy stress. Brakes too. Car manufacturers spend months and months to balance and adapt the engine position, weight, power, and torque to existing body frame. You could end up with a car that has more power but it is dangerous to drive. Not because of bigger speed, but because of bad steering and braking performance, also the risk of breaking something while driving hard. You don't just squeeze a big engine in and hope for the better. Lastly, be prepared for digging deep into your pockets because it's not just the engine you'll have to swap. Is it worth doing it on a small family car body frame?

Probably its much more cheaper to buy a faster car in the the first place.

Why do you think they don't put bike engines on cars from factory?
