Headlights

Just had a look at the manual and it seems fairly clear. I'm minded to only replace the low beans. On high beam it is okay, when you are able to use it. On dipped [most of the time] is when any improvement would be welcome. Think I'll give it a go.

Just got answer back from Powerbulbs - they don't know the correct bulb [say Skoda haven't told them!]. Anyone know how to specify the low beam bulb for this car?

IIRC they are H7 bulbs

read the manual and it will tell you what bulbs for both Xenon and non xenon versions.

That's right H7 lamps for the low beam on the OctyII. Osram Silverstars are the best H7 +50% bulbs out there according to the Auto Express review which compared 40 bulbs. For H4 (in the OctyI) , the winner was the Philips.

H7 bulbs. Thanks guys.

So, I've got an Octy 1 and am looking to move to an Octy 2 this autumn. At present when we go on a shopping raid to France I install the Octy 1 headlight protectors with Skoda's very own beam-blockers (and that was a saga). Can I do the same with Octy 2?

I could not get anything from my Skoda dealer. Found Halfords own brand stick on beam blockers. Ocky 2 not listed but when I asked the manufacturer I was told to use Diagram 8 on the instruction leaflet.

Worked fine for me when I spend 10 days driving around Europe in the summer.

I just dont get why manufacturers make it so bl*dy hard to deal with this kind of thing. It's not like continental <-> UK driving is a particularly new thing

It used to be very easy before, just tape off with black tape on a section of the headlight. Then those stick on light deflectors came along, very nice too.

The tricky stuff started when you had to put it under strange angles, sometimes different between left & right, with more instruction pictures then you could shake a stick at.

I would have been prepared to pay extra for a little motorised switch to switch between continent & UK that I can actually get to without having to resort to effectively dismantling the light unit(s) or paying an extremely high fee at a dealer (no offence to dealers, it's not their fault they have to make a living but even if it cost a tenner a go, it would be too costly IMHO).

Why it's being made more difficult on the new Octy though is something I truly don't get. Let's hope there will be a similar solution to the Octy II soon

Afterthought:

That diagram 8 thing, what other cars are listed under the same diagram, as it may give a clue on potential alternatives ?

Afterthought:

That diagram 8 thing' date=' what other cars are listed under the same diagram, as it may give a clue on potential alternatives ?[/quote']Sorry can't give a full list as I threw the instructions away once the converters were fitted. I know that there was one Audi on the list.

I think that the governing factor is the type of headlamp, not the hadlamp shape as the poistioning of the deflector is shown relative to the headlamp "bulb", not the edges of the hadlamp.
