Suspension saga

Featured Replies

Bit of a rant, wish I'd taken pictures. .

Dad's mk1 fabia had a suspension knock. Pretty muich all the signs of top mounts, so we dropped the struts to change them.

Then noticed the ARB had been rubbing on the con arm offside.

Then we noticed the nearside strut looked a bit, well, odd.

Stipped the spring out of the nearside strut and noticed the bottom end of the spring hadn't been located properly. Then we noticed the spring was bent, not bent like a spring, it had a curve vertically.

Went to do a test fit, and thought, that's strange, it doesn't locate well.

Then my brother spotted it. The spring had been previously fitted... upside down.  :o He thought it was me until we compared all the dust and marks on the spring.

New (straight) spring fitted correctly, strut back together nicely, just waiting for it to stop raining.

And the best bit, the springs were renewed shortly before he bought the car.... at great expense, at a Skoda main dealer  :swear:
