When I see water like that on a Rapid, the first thing that pops into my head is the prospect of a deluge pouring through my open window! :D

LOL - I know what you mean.

However, that particular design flaw can be fixed by fitting wind deflectors to the doors.

I agree as above re Lifeshine, don't bother. I had my Citigo done after negotiating a knockdown price (still too much though) wouldn't have another car done again.

What the phrase "Lifeshine" means I don't know and it's not really explained in their sales bumpf. It certainly didn't look very shiny after 4 months. Yes I know they give you a nice goody pack of products, but they ain't going to last a "Life" I already run out of wax and shampoo after a year. I think they should change it to "Autoglymed" or similar. I did and still do use there products nothing wrong with them.

Applied properly, Lifeshine will last about 6 months before it starts to break down. Applied badly to poorly prepared paint (as it usually is at a dealership), you'll be lucky to get three months of protection.

As for the goodie bag - it's pretty much the same contents as the £50 (and often discounted) AugoGlym Collection bag you can buy in Halfords, Amazon etc - much cheaper than buying the Lifeshine package at the usual dealer rack rate.

Interesting that you guys say your Nav commands reduce the volume of the audio.

Looking around I found this guide https://mediaportal.skoda-auto.com/resource/documentation/manuals/en/Rapid/07-2012/Navigation/A05_Rapid_Amundsen_NavigationSystem.pdf

Suggests that the command volume can only be adjusted in terms of volume of the commands, but reduction in volume can be set for reverse sensors which is what mind does.

It's so infuriating, so much so we've stopped using the Nav :(

Since the Satnav never says something useful - i.e. "speed camera ahead" I have the nav voice muted by setting the nav command volume to zero in the setup menu.

I dont need it to talk because I have the small nav display in the maxidot anyway.

My wife has to be nagged by Satnav so she turns it up again.

We never found it clashes with the music at all.  The sound quality is pretty pants at high volumes so I'm unlikely to have really loud tunes on I guess.

Or else I have a higher personal infuriating threshold.

As regards special protection products for the paintwork I never bother.I have also dispensed with waxing as I was given this tip by a Skoda agent over 10 years ago and have followed it ever since. He said that when you do your final rinse after washing use  cold water mixed with a little dishwasher rinse aid and you will not need to leather it and it will always shine.I have found, through experience, that you can just use the cold water and rinse aid mixture with a sponge to both wash and rinse unless the car is very dirty.Whenever I pass this gem of wisdom on to people they look at me as if I have gone mad but just try it once and I think that you will be surprised!

Each to their own. In my personal opinion - you are mad.

I wouldn't put dishwasher rinse aid near my paintwork in a million years.

See what I mean!!!!!

Insane:)

Dishwasher, I don't let my wife loose on car cleaning duties. :D

As regards the use of dishwasher rinse aid and water mixture for car cleaning I always get this reaction but consider this.... if it is good enough for putting a shine on plates which are then used by people to eat food from it is very unlikely to harm car paintwork and the shining properties work on most things.I have used the method for over 10 years with no problems.I adopted it because I am basically lazy and it gives a good finish with little effort and bottles of  rinse aid are cheap in both Aldi and Lidl.To all detractors I say don't knock it until you have tried it!!!

Anyway does anyone have any clever ideas for thoroughly cleaning multi "spoked" alloy wheels?

The inside of a dishwasher is a highly caustic environment due to the high levels of salt used in the cleaning process. Rinse Aid is designed to do its job in that harsh environment, and designed to cut through that salty residue on your plates etc in order to aid the drying process. Not something I want it doing on my paintwork. In my view, nothing wrong with the process you are using, just the product.

You would be far better using some Demon shine - designed to be used exactly the way you are using dishwasher Rinse Aid, except Demon Shine is designed for car paintwork, not knives and forks. Very cheap and frequently on offer at the likes of Wilko, Halfords, Asda and Tesco.

Have you considered a nice fluffy car drying towel as well - I use the £3 ones from Asda as they wash up really well and work a lot better than the old chamois of the past.

You need to get a set of Wheel Woolies (inc the angled one):

So it's booked to go back to the dealer in a couple of weeks.

Something definitely not right with the clutch. Over the last month or so the bite point has come right up to the top of the pedal swing. We're only at 3k miles currently so not right to do that. Makes gear changes quite lumpy, and hill starts tricky.

I'm a bit nervous that the dealer is likely to disagree that there's a problem, especially as it's unlikely anything will come up on diagnostics. But we'll see :o
