So, there seems to be very little info on the 280PS version of the Skoda Superb at the moment. I'm sure that will change in time but if anyone finds further information on this engine please post here. There are currently no reviews of this engine and the configurator is also not showing it. The only few things I've found are posted below as a starter. I'm likely to order this engine in L&K when I have the cash as it seems to tick the boxes (practicality for SWMBO and umphh for me)

Not a lot of info around alright.  Looks set to be some machine!  I already posted this on another thread https://youtu.be/jMHEaF32irA.  It is not mentioned in the video but the car featured is a 280 4x4.  I think most of the press / pre-launch cars were 150 TDIs hence the lack of reviews

Thanks, I forgot to read back to check if it displayed as you usually have to amend the url as you said.  Funny review alright and looks like he was having lots of fun throwing that 280 around those corners.  BTW for a really funny review check this one out for the Audi S6 from the same reviewer - slightly off topic I know but hilarious and worth watching!!

3k km on the car and doing 260 kph jebus...you can see the fuel gauge going down if you look closely. Some lift though

I'm going to have me one of these..... Unfortunately I'm going to have to wait 3 years for it :-(

I hope they take it straight out of the Scirocco R and dump it under the Superbs bonnet.

'Phoned Skoda UK today to find out if the L and K Estate 280 will be available, and they said it will be in the configurator August.

don't ask when, he was not sure, but from what he was saying first or second week Aug.

 

So it will be available at least in L and K trim.

 

  So...... one L and K  Estate 280 with 4 wheel drive and DSG. extras sunroof, paddle shift, rear camera, and rear seat fold down release. Light tan leather but not sur what colour?

 

Please form up behind me for yours!!!

Thanks for that. For me, that's a perfect review. The car is exactly what I'm looking for. I don't need any aggressive styling just because it's got more power and I feel the need to flash the cash "look what I got" - it's all about stealth for me. I want a normal looking car, with all that practicality that has got the oomph when I need it. Plus it’s something people will casually walk past. In fact, in the very likely chance I buy this early next year I’ll immediately de-badge it – I’m all for the ‘clean’ look (yes including those L&K cake font side trim decorations)! I know what car it is – no one else needs to and that’s the way I like it.

 

We all know generally speaking more power is less economical. I'm prepared for it. Maybe it's a mid life crisis but it's certainly one SWMBO approves of because the car still ticks all her boxes too (no double entendre jokes there please)

 

Yeah, it's not going to be a cornering machine but I'd say I'm in that so called 'niche' market for comfort and power. Plus I’ll be specifying L&K with most of the optional extras too. I’ll buy the car to keep it and I think this is really something I want to invest in. I’m the minority Skoda made this car for and for that I’m very pleased!

3 things would stop me buying a 280, in this order:

 

1/ its only a 4 pot

2/ it will be worth next to nothing at 5 years old (if you can sell it)

3/ I do 20+K miles a year!

That's OK for me because I will be keeping mine at least 10 years :-)

Early reviews (like Ausfahrt) have made a joke of no visible exhaust at the rear, but...

Has the 280 got visible chrome exhausts at the rear? Seems so.

 

Unfortunately the recent 280 reviews I've looked at use stock video/photos and not of the 280, as evidenced by the lack of the 4x4 markings.

 

Videos of the Geneva launch show the 280 with twin chrome exhausts, but other models without.

I have just seen my 1st mod!!

The 280 hatch & combi are now on the German configurator as the 206 kW, Ambition and higher, but still no sign of it on the UK site.

There is a press 280, I didn't get a chance to drive it. Real shame but the guy who was reviewing it said:

 

"This is an amazing 3l v6"

 

I tipped my hat to him and rolled my eyes to the sky. Without popping the bonnet it could of been an oil burner, although one hopes that difference is noticeable from the right foot!

 

Lets guess it is a UK spec 280, externally it was very subtle or this example was, in fact you can only really tell it's the 280 from below the rear valance with 2 exhausts exiting under and behind the valance, not the shiny tips as you've posted.... Following it's a superb!

 

However there is a 'model' version to follow, a 'sporty' one. Maybe not a vRS Superb, but with more sporty, that's all I could gleam, no insight to cosmetic or functional sporty. I suspect cosmetic.

I'm hoping to borrow the 280 soon. It's the one I really wanted to try as it's mostly members of this site that will be buying them When I do I'll try to make a mini meet to examine it, somewhere convenient to folk on this thread, I'll just use location entries.

It looks like you can have free service plan and an extra 2 years waranty free!!

As has been mentioned by Mayoboat in the post above - the configurator is showing the cost of extended warranties and service plan for the 280PS engine as £0. Can you find out if this is a mistake or is some sort of special offer for this engine. If it's an offer how long is it valid for? I was preparing to take 2 years extended warranty and the service plan which is a potential saving of £1109!

I've also contacted Škoda UK with the same question. Awaiting an answer which I'll post here unless Colin beats them to it.

 

1/8/15 - Sent 3 queries (this, winter tyres, and rear USB/230v). Only the winter tyres has been answered so far.

I'd print it out ASAP!

 

The configuration tool is wrapped in errors and omission clauses That is it's only what the dealer can order / signed for that counts. Problem is, if it an oversight, asking them might fix it

I wonder if this is a subtle indicator? A 280 shown at the Geneva launch. 19" Supernova wheels, two-tone leather seats, stitching that matches body colour.
