Aircon issues

Featured Replies

Had my aircon system seals etc replaced a couple of months ago as there was a leak. So other than another leak in the condensor im ruling out a leak.

System pressurises as expected (also rules out a leak).

All temperature sensors working as expected.

Fans cutting in when AC is on.

When the AC is on there is a sound from hehind the dials/radio area, this sounds like gas flowing or a leak, obviously not a leak though.

Only thing i can see is the evaperator temp sensor says 28*C, but thats also obvious as its kicking out warm air.

Anyone have any ideas?

It has slowly got worse since a regas last month.

Mk2 pre facelift 2.0 CR170 vrs

Thanks

Phil is yours the original condenser with the dryer bolted on. With a white cap?

Mines making pressure. Im thinking i now have a leak on my radiator, even though its got a leak its got enough gas to pressurise. But not enought to cool it? Thinking of going and getting gas removed, measure the amount that comes out and put back what i need.

It was blowing 28*C today [emoji23]

Bump :-)

Hi pip ,

I think what  J306td meant,  was there a white plug on the drier which was bolted to the nearside of the condenser in front of the radiator ?.  My old 1.9 leaked gas from there and I couldn't get it stopped , found it by putting a soapy mixture on the cap and it bubbled. Had to replace condenser in the end as a skoda dealer said it was a replacement condenser and tried to sell me a new skoda part rather than just a new cap/plug..

If you have a leak the system cant keep enough pressure to work .

You should get it scanned with VCDS as it will tell you all about any problems.

There are no fault codes and watching all the data as i turn on/off the aircon etc all shows it 'working'. Just the actual air coming out the blowers isn't cold.

Its not leaking at the fill points for the gas?.

The valve inside the compressor sometimes jams and stops working and no fault codes show.

Then Its new valve or compressor needed.

There are threads about the centre bolt on the compressor coming out, depends on the compressor type .

My compressor doesnt have that bolt with the common issue. The system is pressurising up, so surely the compressor is actually working. I'll get a vid of the noise inside the car

Turns out its now not making the noise. Air is same with AC turned on or off. Suspect the gas has leaked out? But why wouldnt an AC refil machine pick up on a leak, they are surely meant too?

It has to be a MAJOR leak for an A/C machine to pick it up. The way the machine checks is by pulling a vacuum. The leak has to big enough to prevent a vacuum being created. Most A/C leaks are just small pin holes or seapage from seals/ joins etc. To prevent a vacuum being created it would need to be a snapped A/C pipe etc (a common fault on vauxhall corsa D's)

All joints have been replaced with new seals. I think it'll be condensor as its battered. Ill take it to a place who fill with stuff and leak check properly.
