Firefox favourites on new PC

Featured Replies

Just upgraded my PC at last - A64 3200 with an X800GTO

For the first time ever I've used a SATA HDD (actually, SATA-II) and my word was there some trauma setting that up under Windows XP, what with extracting drivers onto floppy disk and all. Or, in the language of smilies:

   :mad: :weeping: :smash:  :woohoo:

SATA? More like PITA....but after about 10 failed attempts finally decided to RTFM and realised I can't set up a single disk, has to be a JBOD RAID (albeit a small one) which confusingly is called 'Spanning' in the nVidia Ultra BIOS/RAID setup.

Anyway I now have a fresh install. So....given that I didn't export my Firefox favourites BEFOREHAND ( ), how can I retrieve them now? My old windows install is on a drive in my PC for the purpose of transferring files out. Just had a look in my old Firefox directory and can't find anything that looks useful (suppose I should copy the cookies across though?).

Any pointers would be appreciated...

You need to grab your profile which will be in the documents and settings directory

Firefox bookmarks are stored as an html file. Just do a search for "bookmark.html" :)

Re SATA, you shouldn't have to set up a RAID or JBOD/span. I'm assuming you have an nForce 4 mobo (so your X800GTO if PCI-e  ). As long as you don't activate the nVRaid option, they will run as standalone discs. I have three drives in my system, 2 of them in RAID-0 for OS (configured in nvraid) and one of them as a backup drive on its own. Anyway, I'm digressing here, it wasn't the object of your post :o

edit: it's in fact bookmarks.html and it's in:

\\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\.default\bookmarks.html

You will probably find them in here on your old drive

C:\Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\your profile name

you will need to make sure you have hidden folders and files shown.

Open my computer click on Tools -> Folder options then the View tab then Check the "show hidden files and folders."

In your profile folder there will be a bookmarks.html file you can then copy it into your new profile folder on your new installation

Re SATA' date=' you shouldn't have to set up a RAID or JBOD/span....[/quote']

:woot: found my bookmarks, thanks guys for the pointers.

On the subject of RAID then, I have an Nforce Ultra mobo that has four SATA II plugs on the nforce controller and a further 4 SATA (I) plugs on a separate chip.

When I want to add more disks in the future, can I add them on the nvidia chip WITHOUT them becoming part of my existing JBOD array? Or is it one array per controller and I need to use the other chip...
