What service?

Featured Replies

Hi,

My car has just hit 52,500 miles it was last serviced 37078 miles ago. Am I due a service and if so any idea what type?

I have a 1.6 diesel

Many Thanks

Mathew

37078 miles since your last service! I'm no expert but even I would hazard a guess that you're due a service! Or do you mean it was last serviced at 37078 miles?

Your car has a built-in service indicator. If the car is due a service it will be telling you via the instrument cluster.

If you have indeed done 37,000 miles since the last oil change you are well over due. I'd be getting everything done!

After taking a look at my post I can see the confusion I have caused! What an idiot!!

Ok The car was last serviced at 37,410 miles n the clock the clock (Currently reads) 52,500. That means the car was last serviced 15,090 miles ago. When is its next service due? I have had a look at the computer and its says 2,500 miles to the next service is that correct?

I have also attached a picture of the dash cluster reading.

If you're on variable servicing then that sounds about right. I used to get about 17k between services on variable. I switched to fixed services after 3yr.

I typically go with the mileage is the skoda set at 17K between each service?

There or there abouts. I typically get c18,000 miles on variable servicing.

Variable servicing is exactly that, it varies. There are a number of influences such as number of cold starts, journey times, engine load etc.

The maximum interval for variable is up to approx 20,000 miles or 2 years.

What is your annual mileage? Anything around 10,000 miles or less and I'd be looking to change from variable to fixed (10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever is reached first) as this will guarantee fresh oil at least once a year - ideal for engine and turbo longevity.

Iam doing between 14k - 17k per year.

So a full service would be oil change and all filters I guess?

Getting into the habit of changing the oil and filter twice a year is not a bad thing then!

Sounds like variable servicing is perfect for you.

See here for what is covered under each of the two types of service...

A minor service is essentially a fixed / annual service, the major service is closer to the long life / variable service.

Be warned though that the extra parts listed on the major service (air and fuel filters) are only replaced if required, which for the majority of service intervals they aren't. Skoda will still happily charge you £259 for what might essentially be a £139 minor service though.

Main Dealers they are a funny bunch!!

I wonder what it would cost me just for parts for a full service.

Oil - £30

Oil filter and sump plug - £10

Air filter - £8

Fuel filter - £13

Pollen filter - £10
