Rubber boot/wire route in door

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am experiencing problems with my electric windows, and I believe that one of the wires on the door is the route cause. When my drivers door is open, the electric windows do not operate; however they do when the door is closed.

My question is, what part of the rubber flexible boot do I prize away to pull it back to inspect? I assume there is a block connector at both ends, one in the A-pillar and one in the door. Is this correct? Tried pulling on both ends but it will not budge.

Does anyone have any images of the exposed wiring so I can see what to avoid pulling on.

Thanks

This loom is a pain. :( I had one done in my last Fabia which cost about £175, though it was affecting the locking of the doors which was a major problem.

I soldered it on a few occasions (which lasted a few months each time) before I had it replaced completely. Not a cheap job.

If you fancy having a go, take the rubber / plastic insulation off at the door end. I think it unclips from memory, then pull towards the car via the gap.

Its definitley a weak point. If you are handy with the soldering iron and a bit of insulation tape you might be able to keep it going for a bit.

Yes I have seen many threads about the wires rubbing in the door aperture in the rubber boot. I will try to prize it off via the door end, it was very 'solid' when I tried earlier. Luckily no issues with door locking so far!

I have a soldering iron, think the hardest part will be gaining access to the exposed wire!

It is indeed quite fiddly. It depends on how patient you are too. At least at this time of year its not too bad weather wise, I certainly wouldn't want to do it in the winter!

If the door end is stubborn, you could try the inner door end (nearest the wing). It doesn't really matter, just gaining the access is the awkward part.

I think it is the luck of the draw which wire goes, could be for locking or the windows / mirrors etc! There are quite a few in there.
