Musty smell...

Featured Replies

.. now that I have the vRS back hopefully leak proof, but believe it when I see it (no rain here today), it still smells musty inside. I dried the carpet under the driver seat with a roll of kitchen paper to soak up the water (nice of the garage not to bother  ) and the vRS mat is nice and dry (been on the boiler two days).

Anyone any suggestions how to get it non smelly, and no 'hang a magic tree up' ideas please  Ta

Bacteria can cause nasty niffs. So if and in which case, what do you reckon is causing them to breed? Air con (unrelated) or attributable to your leaks?

Have u tried using a wet/dry carpet vac?

There is an aerosol you can get for killing the bacteria that grows inside your AC workings, and gets rid of the musty smell that can make. Basically you leave the AC running and set the aerosol off in the car and leave it for 15 mins (it steams the windows up so you can't do it while driving).

It might work for you but you'd have to make sure that are the interior is dry first, I belive you can get it in Halfords for about

Yes its by Comma.

If its to do with damp, I'd think about giving the affected area a good soaping, wash and scrub.

The underlining of the carpet will hold water like a sponge for ages.

Its about four ins thick in places, the only way to sort it effectively is to remove it and dry it out properly.

Hi,

I have had the same problem with my 04-reg fabia. It is currently in the garage having the ancillary carriers replaced.

When I get it back I am going to put a de-humidifier in the car for a couple of nights to remove the damp caused by the leaks. Think it is worth a shot instead of removing the carpets.

Andy

if it was a fault that has been fixed under warrenty surely any damage should be fixed aswell? Like the carpet replaced?

dunno mine smells too but i thought it was just me lol

but i think its leaking again from the rear driver side door

Are leaks a common issue on the Fabia?

A concerned new Fabia owner!

Perhaps a rubber lining under the carpet could help - I dunno?

Well, mine still leaks too after supposedly being fixed for the second time as per my other thread about the damp rear carpets!

And suffers from excessive condensation as well as smelling musty as per this thread

Back to the garage...

Thanks for the tips so far guys, Frebreze sounds a good one once it's finally sorted.

let me know how you get on as i will need to get all the same things as you done

Um....

Here's a tip that one can use to trace oil leaks on old aero engines.

Talc the suspected areas (door seals par example?) then look again after the problem has occured. Where if at all has the talc been disturbed by the fluid? This highlights potential problem areas. Bit messy but it doesn't stain anything and is easy to vacuum up.

Sounds like sound advice to me

I have never suffered with water leaks... I've had all the other regular Fabia problems, so no doubt my time will come... :thumbdwn:
