Spoke to the dealer about the 1.8tsi elegance - only offered £2400 for Jetta!! So put it up for sale privately...

definately dont get the white one...i put a deposit down on it at Harlow Skoda at £9000 when it had just come through the door, needed a bit of TLC which they were going to sort, they rang back 2 days later saying it had been in their workshop and it needed a bit more than TLC....about 3.5k more!! to get it to a saleable level, have since seen it for sale in N.Ireland!!!

Don't get the White. It's too taxi. I know because I have one..........and its a taxi [emoji39]

I think most folk who hire a wedding car aim a bit higher.

Looks to be pretty high spec too - 170bhp, sunroof, Amethyst, park assist? And I've been offered £2500 for the Jetta - meaning £6500 purchase price - leaves me £1500 for mods!!!

But I've widened my search & found this......

Cheap cheap!!! Leaves me £3200 to spend on mods + sell the Jetta privately. It could end up not costing me so much to buy

What sort of mileage is on it?

The estate does indeed have park assist.

Personally I would get one later than mid 2010 (60 plate onwards), so you get 7 digit postcode search, separate front DRL’s and better bluetooth as std.

I'm still not 100% convinced with the DSG.... But otherwise it's a high spec car, in budget & local

I'd rather buy a well maintained higher mileage car with full history (with all bills to prove) than a low mileage model (all things being equal age-wise) simply because the consumables will probably have been replaced e.g brake discs, suspension components, exhaust, timing belts and tensioners if fitted, tyres, etc....whereas the lower mileage model will have them coming up for replacement on your watch. That equals more expense short term. Just a thought.

The 6 speed DSG is fine as long as oil and filter are replaced every 40k miles.

You really need to test drive them.

The Superb DSG I test drove (new demonstrator) was a dog of a box, very jerky, enough to make me sure that I still wanted a manual.

I am considering a DSG next time though.... BUT I will have the 5 year warranty!

Here are the list of Superb engine/box combinations I've tried:-

1.8tsi DSG - the box didn't know what it was doing and kept dropping from 7th to 5th then back up again. Definitely not a combination I'd buy

1.6tdi manual - engines a little to small for my requirements (a spirited drive, plus a tow vehicle at car shows)

2.0 Tdi 140 manual - nice, but definitely slower than my Jetta

2.0 Tdi 170 DSG - nice & smooth, used all the modes - but definitely thing flappy paddles would help.

3.6 v6 DSG with flappy paddles - OMG!!!! I'm in heaven - but an indicated 27-29mpg! That would double my fuel bill & an extra £300 a year road tax!!

However no matter which engine I pick - my insurance quote was £190!!!!

Oh and I forgot to mention I've also had a drive of the 2.0tsi DSG. Nice combination & if I could afford the £15k price tag the. That is what I'd buy!!
