Registered keeper on Pch lease deal

Featured Replies

Will be calling insurance company tomorrow regarding my incoming Vrs which is on Pch lease deal, who will be the registered keeper me or Skoda finance?

VWFS will be the registered keeper and you will never see the log book, unless you end up buying it at the end using someone you know to put their name to it of course!

My insurer (Admiral) were not bothered either way.

Mine either. Elephant. Not got car yet, but had my premium quote and they said "makes no difference" I expected / feared it may have had a big impact.

The registered keeper is the person who has the car not vwfs. Vwfs is the owner of the car while it has any debt on it. So the keeper should have the V5

Even as the driver of the car, on PCH the contract hire company (in this case VWFS) will hold the V5, not the person driving.

This is correct. VWFS will be the legal keeper and holder of the V5. PCH, unlike PCP is in its simplest term a long term rental. So just like with Enterprise, AVIS etc. you will never see the V5.

If you were to get a speeding ticket for example, then the NIP will go to VWFS to nominate the current user of the car, therefore with a PCH car, the 2 week period for NIPs to the user of the car does not apply as it applies only to the company/person named on the V5 which in this case would be VWFS.

So if VWFS hold the V5, what happens if you take the car abroad, where carrying a V5 is a legal requirement?

Presumably you'd have something in writing from VWFS to the same effect as a V5 that would be acceptable to the local rozzers?

Read up on a few websites today and they say I will be the registered keeper not VWFS

Have you read your hire agreement from Skoda? Certainly isn't the case for me...

Make sure you are not confusing PCP with PCH, with PCP you would be the registered keeper. We have several members here with PCH deals and IIRC they are not the registered keeper.

Just spoken to someone at skoda finance who are stating that VWFS will be the registered keeper so will go with that, all a tad confusing though

Had a quick perusal last night but quite small print so may have missed any mention of registered keeper details for insurance purposes

It's definitely VWFS who are the keeper - I think it's really confusing, and in my opinion the person who is in charge of the vehicle day to day should be in possession of the V5, or at least a copy of it! But hey ho!

I don't really understand the confusion here. A lease vehicle is a hire car over a longer term. You are neither the owner or the registered keeper and as such there is no necessity for the V5. If you travel abroad the terms clearly state to contact VWFS and they will issue a VE102.

Agree totally Paddy Wagon. Never entered my head that I'd be the reg keeper. But at least the forum has helped once again.

I don't see the confusion, those of us that have a car on PCH knew fine well we had no claim to the vehicle at all, therefore we wouldn't appear on the V5 as it is not our car!!

I would argue that even on PCP your still not the keeper as you could just hand it back after the term ends(The same as long term hire) so technically unitl you either re-finance the balloon payment or pay outright you don't own the car??

There is a difference between legal owner and registered keeper, to which previous posts have alluded. The V5C only states the keeper, who is responsible for taxing the vehicle. VWFS have taken the stance that they wish to remain the keeper. Other companies may or may not do likewise. As VWFS are the keeper then they have to arrange the road tax. It is not a problem either way with my insurer.

If I thought I may have been caught speeding I know that I will have to wait more than two weeks to be in the clear. The police only have to contact VWFS inside 14 days, and VWFS then have some time (perhaps 28 days) to respond with my details. Then the police will write to me, etc.

If you have been caught mate VWFS just pay the fine and invoice you direct then the points follow suit! It's a bit crap as no real chance of contesting it without a load of grief

They can't. How can they name the driver in accordance with Sec172 of the Road Traffic Act 1988?

For something like a speeding ticket vwfs would inform the police who is using the car according to their records then the police would serve papers on that person to ascertain who was driving at the time in question.

For something simple like a parking ticket vwfs would simply pay it and invoice you.

I don't get how they can do it even for a parking ticket as you are legally allowed to contest it. However it does state in the small print of the contract that they will pay any parking tickets then invoice you for the ticket plus their 'admin' costs.

Fair enough, it was probably just me getting confused between the two, makes sense that the Police would need to serve a NIP on the hirer/lender of the vehicle to find out the driver at the time of the offence.

Cheers for that

You are the registered KEEPER of the car, VW finance is the registered OWNER of the car

On PCP he defo would be but seems on a PCH which is a hire only with no view to own you do not get the V5.
