Best Driver Power MPV of 2015 is...........................................

Featured Replies

Yes folks this week`s Auto Express has published its 2015 Driver Power best car categories and the good old Roomster is the MPV winner, considered best in class  :sun: ...But then we all knew that already..Interesting that one of the chief reasons for its success is the versatility of the thing as well as the seat comfort and reliability......This has beaten off everything from Vauxhall`s meriva through the Ford C Max to Citroen/Renault MPV`s despite it being around for so long!!....

Ironic that they cease production and its still wins awards...Now can we start to image what might have happened, if someone with an iota of wit and imagination had pushed and publicised this car, highlighted its strengths instead of seeming to be embarrassed by its odd looks(to some)..What a failure for Skoda, they should have fought harder for it...IF it gets replaced at all, it will be a re badged Caddy which is primarily a van anyway  :notme: will be grossly overpriced, withdrawn after 2 years and some plank will say..`Ah well, we tried with the Roomster, but it didn`t work`

At least we have had the Roomster and been impressed by it and will still be cheap, versatile, reliable and comfortable transport......and if you are lucky enough to have the 105 a hot ship!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yes and rant over...............back to just disappointment

Great cars ( 105bhp 1.2tsi ) we had one , the only thing we did like was the rake of the front doors , the top of the doors has a curve , we were for ever banging our heads on it , nearly took one of the wife's eyes out , (very nasty), sad but the roomy had to go replaced with a fabia ( different top door design ) no more head banging

The only negative comment is the black curve of paint on the side front windows which makes a blindspot  to safely out see on some road junctions

The "embarrassment"  went down to the dealers too!  Took my Octavia for a service and had a courtesy car booked.  Service desk was VERY apologetic that all that was left was a Roomster...

Well!  I liked that courtesy car so much that one year later I bought one!!  2yrs and 25k miles later and I am more convinced every day that it really is the best car I ever had.  My neighbour likes mine so much that last week she took delivery of a 1 yr old 1.2 DSG.

I wonder if the Roomster will become a cult car in a few years.  Like the VW camper van.   It has all the pre-requisites - quirky looks, versatility, an adoring ownership base and not quite rarity but not very many on the roads, giving it a certain exclusivity.

Who knows, maybe we will even get a revival equivalent a la Mini/Fiat 500 in 20yrs time

My only regret is I didn't buy one sooner

I have a lot of cars over the years and my roomster is in the top 3

Such a shame that it has gone out of production isn't it. Nearly bought one march 2014 but couldn't get over the shape, bought another car instead that went in px for my Roomie in March this year. You live and learn don't you. I find the 85bhp tsi a great engine though economy not really achieved what I expected on a run. Think the 1.6tdi may have been a better buy for me but couldn't of had a brand new car with that engine. Still the tsi is fine and Im happy enough and no need to say the rest of the car is great because we all know that don't we.

What mpg are you getting and what kind of run mileage wise

Not done a nice long run and then filled up straight away to work out a true maximum mpg. I generally fill up from empty and work it out, seems to equal out with the odd 100 mile round trip on motorway and local running around but sadly god made his own county very hilly. So I'm getting low to mid 40s mpg.

This might be normal but from the official figures i would exepct steady motorway trips to bump it up.

I bought my Roomie after owning a Multipla for 10 years. The Roomie is so practical; high roofline makes strapping my grandson into his car seat not a back breaking task and the rear seats are easily removed for car boot lugging. Very practical. The engine is not as torquey as the Fiat but is more economical and half the road tax. Great vehicle

Done 11k from new and the mpg is getting better as the miles roll on. Drove to Chatham along the M25 for a distance of 50 miles at 60 to 65mph and got 55mpg (shown on computer) really impressive. The overall mpg as indicated by the option 2 figures work out at 47mpg average. I have a light right foot!!
