OEM Rear Boot Light

Featured Replies

Anybody have a wiring guide on how to get the light to come on when the doors open?

Also, I've bought the bit of plastic trim with the light to replace the trim in my Citigo which doesn't have the light. Is it a straight swap? Or have they moved the clips about?

Sorry to resurrect an old thread by the way...

Just in case anybody finds this thread and wants to do the same mod... Here's what I did...

I purchased the piece of trim for the boot that had the light already in it. I ran 2x wires through the headlining, down the left hand side of the boot and connected it to the light (I replaced the light with an aftermarket LED unit from eBay).

To power the light, I tabbed the cables on the festoon bulb contacts on the interior light... Now when the interior light comes on, the boot light also comes on. As the boot has a switch that activates the interior light, this works well!

Overall, very happy with this mod! Had a magnetic stick-on light before, but did installed boot carpet so this light didn't stick on anymore.

What is the part number and price of the replacement boot trim please?

I don't have the part number, unfortunately. I just found the part on fleabay (will go back to the listing and see if it has the part number). Cost about £25, plus £12 for the LED light (the trim came with a light, but the rest of the interior is LED, so fancied keeping it the same).

Hi Simon, just checking in to see if you had any luck adding the rear boot light?

I'm about to face the same hassle as you guys with wires. I've picked up of fleabay boot trim already with the light from newer up!

Apparently, there is another way of running cables, so the boot light actually will come on when you open the boot not together with your interior lights lol. Accordingly to wiring diagrams, one cable should be attached indeed to the ceiling interior light and the other wire is connected to rear boot lid locking mechanism (or something being part of it). If You have a PID you've noticed that you get notification of boot lid being open...

Nów, how to make wiring easy and to make light come on when boot is open?

I maybe fairly mechanically minded person but I have NO CLUE when it comes to electrics...

Sometimes, the easiest way is the best way. Did exactly the same thing as @Toby7243and it worked just fine.

Let there be light: and there was light.

IMHO, i might be wrong, on the factory fitted cars boot light comes up together with interior light anyway.

stock light vs LED light

I have a surplus L/H boot trim (1ST 867 761 A) with DIY LED boot light. I will gladly give it away or post it at the cost of postage.

My dad has a Citigo with the factory fitted boot light. Next time I see the car, I'll check and let you know.

Just checked dad's Citigo (2015 plate), the boot light doesn't come on when the driver's door is opened, only when the boot door is open.

So the mod P3P5I and I have done isn't "factory standard", but with an LED bootlight, there's not much to worry about re. bulbs blowing

Accordingly to the citigo's wiring diagrams, one wire is indeed connected to the interrior lights anyway were the second wire should be connected to one of the wires going to/from boot lick locking mechanism. In this case it would work as on the stock car.

The  funny part is, when You open the boot, interior light does come up at least that how it worked before Ive added the boot light so Im not realy bothered if the boot light comes up when You open the doors lol

Bottom line is, I can see something in the boot

Essentially, this.

Couldn't see in the boot. Can now see in the boot. All was well in the world.

Anyone got the part number for the trim? The link to eBay has expired and I'm struggling to find it.

Thanks.

As @P3P5I mentioned, the p/n looks like it's 1ST 867 761 A. It could also be 1S0867761A, though.

At the very least, you might be able to go into a Skoda dealership and see if they can get the part. You might even be able to find the reg. of a newer (i.e. 2016 plate) online and ask them to order the rear boot trim for that car. AFAIK, the fitment is exactly the same between the one with and without light (although I don't know if the same can be said for the facelift. To Skoda's credit whenever I used them, they were very good at being able to find the part on their system, and whichever parts I ordered from them seemed to be very cheap.

I don't have my Citigo anymore, so I can't check the p/n of the part I used, unfortunately. 😞

In all honesty, I'd recommend buying the LED Upgraded Boot Light (I think it was these ones I ordered: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-White-LED-Courtesy-Light-Boot-Footwell-fit-for-Skoda-Octavia-MK3-5E-2012-2017/113725665196?hash=item1a7a93efac:g:yAAAAOSw5lpcvU2t), making a cut-out in the plastic and fitting the upgraded LED unit yourself. MUCH brighter than the original :D

Thanks for your advice. I think I'll do as you recommend and buy an aftermarket light and cut out the hole for it.

No problem. Don't think it'd be too difficult to cut out to be honest. It doesn't have to be mega neat as the light should hide any imperfections.

It might be worth sourcing another trim to practise on though if you're like me (i.e. useless with anything manual!)
