Fuel Range

Featured Replies

I know I've got an ongoing problem but I don't think the range has anything to do with it?

But normally when I fill up I get a range of 435 miles nearly always. Tonight I get this

This is immediately after filling up. I even put more than normal in. Anybody know why it's only 375 miles?

Is it based on the way you drive?

Yes it is based on the way you drive, so if you ragged it a bit before filling up it thinks that's how you will do the new tank of fuel. If you can do the next 10 or so miles really carefully it will go up. You still won't get anywhere near the manufacturers stated mpg though, that's just a complete lie.

Basically, yes. The range after a refuel will initially be calculated based on the consumption rate/driving style in the run up to the refuel. So, if you were driving like a melon with a lead foot just before the refuel (let's say 10+ miles worth of gunning it), the initial calculated range will be low, but should dynamically adjust as you drive if you start driving more efficiently.

Ah that explains it. I've been hooning it around for days so it thinks I'll do the same. At least that parts right because I will be :)

Gotta love disused airstrips:)

Thanks Chris and Nels.

If only there were some way of explaining why you've been getting poor fuel economy. Hmmm... nope, it's a puzzle  ;)

Haha I wonder :)

Don't crash it with the incorrect suspension parts on.  Insurance cover?

BTW mine says 520 to 560 immediately after a fill. :)

My Astra used to be the same. If I'd been driving it on short journeys for a couple of weeks and then filled it up before doing 50 miles on the motorway, the range would still be increasing by the time I got to Cambridge.

you need just put wings on... ;)

630 miles on a tank and 15 miles left to go. Brimmed again with 49 litres so the maths...

49l = 10.7 gallons

630/10.7 = 58.8 real world MPG.

Mine says 680miles range when brimmed

^^^^ Stormchaser ^^^^ :peek: :x:envy:

I wish mine would do that but use it for mainly short town like trips. Still get showing averages of 43-45mpg on the display after just travelling a few miles, I'm happy with what I get.

Heres mine after a fill up and i'd done 28 miles, I dont brim it either just until first/second click. :-) Love my Rapid!

Yep I think if you want a reliable(ish) Super economical car with a MASSIVE boot and doesnt cost a fortune the Rapid/Toledo is the only thing that fits the bill.

Agree with all that except Super economical - the 105 certainly isn't.

Mind you if I'd wanted Super economy I would have bought the diesel - and 10 years supply of earplugs  :giggle:

Should have said mine is the 1.2 TSI

Fuel range of 615 miles from a tsi ?

Don't know whether to laugh or cry. Is yours a 86bhp?

On the display "range" can be more then 600 miles but to get it on motorway is hard... :D

I got mine up to 505 once until getting into towns and never saw it again.

Stormchaser - mate, I am not sure there is any point in you posting about your consumption and range at the moment - it is beyond doubt your car and its instruments have something wrong with them, and by your own admission you are ragging the crap out of the car at an airfield at the moment. None of your fuel information is going to be realistic or comparable to other drivers with similar cars while you are driving like a loon (on a runway).

Until you stop ragging it, your range and consumption is going to be all over the place. It'll soon settle down when you stop that and drive consistently again.

I know and point taken Chris. I was merely posting that to show that the range did rise from previous that's all.

I just hate the car. Period. May be of use in the future to some other poor owner.

It kinda confuses me how some people on here have bought a large car with a v small engine then attempt to drive it like they've bought a sports car.... Then complain about fuel economy? This isn't really aimed at you in particular storm chaser but there are many people who a) say they drive it hard and B) say they get crap fuel economy? If I wanted to drive fast and want economy I would have bought a Leon fr diesel maybe? The other thing is the rapid doesn't look great when it's being driven hard. Saw a guy in a white one wheels pin out of a turning the other day maybe he thought his was faster than mine maybe? It looked embarrassingly bad :-( car rocking from side to side as the suspension struggled to keep up with his "manouver". just my 2p :-)

Obviously driving on a disused airfield isn,t everyones cup of tea.You can have fun with no limits like driving on a public road.I enjoy it as i,m sure you all would too.I,ve had sports cars in my past but i,m old now and thats all in the past.I don,t drive like this on public roads as obviously a Rapid with a tiddly engine isn,t worth showing off.

Anyway i started this thread with a quick question about the fuel range which was answered so i,ll close it now as i don,t want to be judged on the way i drive.
