Uncomfortable seats?

Featured Replies

My last Superb was bought new in 2012. It was an Elegance model with leather seats.

Unfortunately after a few months I found the drivers seat proved very uncomfortable. It gave me an ache in my right ass cheek/rear upper thigh. It was as if I was sitting ON the edge of the seat rather than IN it. I had to get rid after about 9 months.

There were a good many other owners on this forum who expressed the same problem with their car seat.

I put it down to the seat being narrower than it needed to be due to the position of the buttons for the electrics.

Anyway, I'd forgotten all about that as I looked at buying the new MKIII....until yesterday when I saw a photo of the seats...they appear to be exactly the same design!

Now I'm having second thoughts...I dont want to make the same mistake twice!

Can I ask, does anyone else have the same concern?

Many thanks.

Mike.

I have sat in the Superb III (i too have a problem with numbness on my right cheek) with Alcantara trim and found the seats very comfortable but part of that was due to the "being held in the seat" part of Alcantara. I did feel that I was slightly more central in the seat but only time will tell, though I am hoping to have a drive in one later this week and have been promised one for a week in September.

The new Jag XE has nice seats Mike ;)

Must agree on that when i had a look a couple of weeks ago.

Yeah, I know, Chris. As they are in my Mazda.

I may well end up in the XE. Trouble is, as I want it petrol powered, gawd knows when it would be delivered.

If, on the other hand` I wanted one of these dirty diesel things, I'd get one `tomorrow`!

Sat in the Superb III and did a "fag packet" measurement and I think the S III is about 3-5cm wider it certainly felt wider.

That's good news. Thank you.

I will get the tape measure out later this week when I have the keys to a S III for 24 hours.

I'd really appreciate some comparative measurements of the seat width for front electric seats with memory in leather between the MkII and MkIII...... thanks! The width of the flat part of the seat base between the "wings" at front and rear of the seat would be helpful. Thanks!

Well my S II front drivers seat is at its widest point (allowing for fat back side) but not including the control section on the side is 49cm and the piece just behind your kness is 36.5cm. The S III is respectively 52cm and 41.5cm.

Ah, so, in real money...just over an inch wider and 2 inches wider.

That is good news.

Many thanks, Danny.

Sorry to hear about 'uncomfortable seats' for some of you. Me personally.....no issues yet with my previous and the current SII (both full electric & leather).

I measured an A6's seat this week and guess what......the max width of the seat is only 5mm wider in A6 and where your bum is in the cushion, A6's seat in 5mm narrower than Superb's!!

Of course we all have different body sizes/shapes etc and it's impossible to satisfy all of us with one type of seat. What I'm trying to understand is........is it really the seat which is causing discomfort or is it the driving posture? When talking about posture of course there are number of factors....but one thing I've experienced is the RHD driver foot rest which is very small/narrow when compared to LHD driver foot rest. Not just the size of it but also if you look at the RHD tunnel protrusion near foot rest is quite exaggerated ( a lump) when compared to LHD which is just normal. This lump on RHD's completely change your posture and where you rest your feet..........this could easily affect a drivers posture and lead to discomfort.

Now the question is............how many LHD SII owners have experienced discomfort from seat/posture?? Is it as common as those who suffer from RHD SII's? I'm quite interested to get some feedback.

Looking at SIII pictures, the lump looks the same on RHD.........does this mean we may have similar discomfort issues despite the seat being slightly wider and longer than SII????  :o  :o  Any of you observed/experienced in real life?

XE vs SIII??? Interesting choices....Sports saloon vs a comfy ship! XE's interior & boot space is even smaller than 3 Series. In my opinion.....SIII stands out

Wow I thought I was the only one experiences numbness in my right butt check after driving the m2 for a while.

Hi there,

in the company where I work we have six different service vehicles (one of them is Superb II) and at home Yeti Elegance. Only in Superb after a long trip, I felt pain in my butt, never happened in any other car (Superb is left hand drive). There must be some design flaw... ,otherwise I love everything else on that Superb.

Greetings !

Nothing but comfort in my LHD Superb II (fabric/Electric). No pains experienced.

When I sat in a Superb III with leather/alcantara it felt comfortable enough for me.

As it was a showroom display model I didn't spend a long time sat in it or get a feel for what it was like when driving.

I haven't had any issues of discomfort in my Superb II (electric/leather).

On long journeys I make a point of stopping between every 60 to 90 minutes and having a short break out of the car to stretch my legs.

That said I've had unfortunate occasions to sit for ages in jams on the autobahn and then driven for hours without a break to catch my booked Le Shuttle and not suffered as a result.

The topic of discomfort in the Superb II has been discussed in the Superb II forum. Some have found relief by slightly bending a bar under the seat.

I've heard no complaints in reviews about the comfort in the Superb III, in fact one has praised it as being better than its predecessor.

The Superb III also came first in the Comfort category of the German "Taxi of the Year" competition and, like Taxi drivers throughout the world, they can be rather fickle about the comfort of their "office".

Has anyone had any issues with the height of the driver backrest in the Superb Mk 3. I'm 6ft 5 and I have sat in the Superb and feel that the back rest is tiny
