Faults

Could an old battery help faults to appear. 17544(p1136) fuel trim bank one. 16395(p0011) bank one camshaft A(intake) retard set point not reached (over advanced). 16727 camshaft position sensor =>G40 signal to high (p0343)_-intermittent. That's the list from my scan, a pal at work mentioned the camshaft sensor could cause problems. Hope you guys can help or the cars up for sale

Looks like cam sensor would be a good place to start, could also be an inherent timing issue. I'm not a whizz with these timing things mind, have you had a cambelt fitted recently? I think the fuel trim fault is occurring as a result of the others.

P.s I have a used genuine working cam sensor if you want it? PM if interested

My Mk. 1 Octy VRS alternator failed a few weeks ago, but strangely, the battery light on the dash didn't come on...

I started to get a few funny faults at first, like the indicators working intermittently....followed by random dash lamps coming on and then going off. I had no idea what was happening, I initially guessed at an earth fault or faulty wiring.

I did a scan and copped a mountain of fault codes, kinda like yours. I scratched my head for a bit, and decided to go back to basics.

I was fairly confident that my battery was ok, being as it was still quite new - but I checked it's resting voltage, which was very low at 12.0v. Only then did I suspect the charging system, which on checking when the engine was running then showed 11.8v. So I knew it was the alternator. Replacement sorted everything out.

So I would imagine that an old battery, which doesn't hold a proper charge, could well give the same symptoms as you are discussing.

Interestingly, as an aside - I recently owned a 2001 model Porsche '996' 911, which are well-known for throwing up all kinds of fault codes and strange behaviour, if the battery is past it's best, despite the fact that the alternator is working fine. If the battery starts to degrade, then owners can get all kinds of similar randomness, which only replacing the battery can eliminate. I copped all this one day, and a new Bosch Silver battery sorted it out immediately.

I would try that solution first with yours?

Ok will change battery first as it's been on the car since I've had it. As for the cam sensor yeah why not how much? Cam belt done at the 120000 along with water pump (metal not plastic blades). Cheers folks feelin calmer now. It's been sluggish to start the last couple of days so will get a new battery for weekend. Gimme my old zx hatch back please you never gave me any issues

Was that 120000 mile change recent?  Possible that timing isn't quite right as a result.  A Ray says it could be worth trying a new battery, however mine went down the swanny and struggled to start after a couple of days or a cold night, but didn't exhibit any other faults, not saying that its not happening with yours, but still...pm sent about sensor
