Hello hopefully someone can help it just started today went out the car was fine then had a wobble from the front as if I had a block of wood stuck to the tyre had a look nothing there started the car as soon as I accelerate it starts again the whole car shakes the faster you go the worse it gets the gearbox isn't noisey every thing seams fine apart from this major shake going on

Could be a few things. Think I'd be checking inner driveshaft joints, do the half past 12 wobble on the wheel check for play in those. Could be something deeper in the transmission. Are there any other symptoms or just the wobble?

It's hard to say without seeing but I'd be making a bee line for the driveshafts as it's bad under load and gets worse with speed? There should be some play (not much though) in and out/up and down to allow for suspension travel, but if there's play from front to back of the car (and if it's vibrating badly from low speed there should be a lot) that could well be your problem. Bit tricky at the moment though but I'd start with transmission and hub assembly parts you can see and reach, rule those out before it gets expensive!

Hi

If I put the clutch down the wobble stops then take my foot off the clutch pedal and accelerate it comes back the whole car shakes side to side like the wheel is hanging off I went to the garage he said it the Dcnf but I'm not to sure there's on banging or anything for the gearbox

I take it the wheel nuts are tight?

^^would certainly be worth a re torque to be sure. Does sound driveline/transmission related though. Rule out some basics first though as said.

The wheel nuts are tight but it does feel like the wheel is hanging off or bent ,the problem I have is that I'm in Milford haven in Wales on holiday I live in Southampton 4 1/2 hours away so I have got to get this fixed other wise I don't know what to do call Mr RAC out

Balance weight come off a wheel?

Yeah take it in somewhere nearby to get the wheels balanced to be sure. Hopefully there's a simple solution so you can get home

It's not a balence weight its really bad the whole car shakes from side to side and it does that as soon as you accelerate and it has got worse the more I drive it the garage thinks it duel mass flywheel but going to check the drive shafts tomorrow first

Plus if it was wheel balance it would carry on with clutch in. We just remain hopeful it's something simple and these things are worth checking, anyway good luck let us know

Sucks that it's happened miles from home. Sorry about that.

Sounds from the above as if something sudden happened to start the vibration. Possible you hit some kind of debris and bent a drive shaft?

Would definitely be looking at the cv joint / driveshaft type area first.

DMF is not out of the question but less likely IMHO - more ££ in it for the garage though so cynic in me wonders if they mention that first to get a guaranteed earner.

Hope you manage to get it all sorted. If you're still having issues when you get back have a word with Best Autos in Totton, reasonable rates and very honest.

I'm thinking more driveshaft, a clonk from something is a good suggestion. A bent or dented driveshaft would be well out of balance and cause a world of pain. Check for damage as well as play.
