First ride out on a proper bike

Featured Replies

Took my cbt last year and had a year on a little yamaha ybr125,

Started my motorbike training last week to get my full licence,

Had 4 hours riding round carpark doing mod 1 stuff on schools ER650 and was abit dissapointed in myself as i really struggled,

Been practising on my YBR since, so much so ive burn't my clutch out on it,

Anyway today i had a full day booked and had 3 hours out on road on ER650 and what a buzz,

Only stalled it once part due to radio's playing up and not knowing where I was ment to be going,

Carn't wait to get out again

Happy days!

Youll get there mate. Good luck with it.

It really is good fun. If theres anywhere i need to be, ill run through reasons why i cant go on the bike first haha

Me too.  We have a visit down South at the end of the month for a family do and I was planning on going on the bike now we have the dog settled in kennels that he is happy with.  That was until last night the good lady mentioned that she could not travel from the Hotel to the pub in the next village on the back of the bike in her party frock!  More to the point she cannot ride the bike back when I have had a drink!!!!!

Good luck with the rest of the training and remember the Instructor does know best but the real learning is when you are out on your own in the big bad world so listen now do it right and it will stand you in good stead for the day you are let loose.  Getting the basics right first is always the safest way to do anything as I am sure you know from your job.

Most importantly have fun because that is what biking should be about and not just a cheap way of getting round (coz it ain't!)

Heh heh heh

The bug will have bitten now.

125 feels like a child's toy after you've been on something bigger.

Superb fella ! As said, once you've tried power there's no looking back.

Its great that you've spent so much time on a 125.

Key is to have bike control second nature so all of your focus and concentration goes into your surroundings...

Enjoy and keep us posted !

Good luck, best thing I ever did, but like Chris said it's not that cheap, as I have found out :D

Have you found the slow stuff a bit easier now you've had some road experience? I was expecting, like you to do a morning or day on the pad practicing slow speed stuff before going on the road but was surprised to be out on the road within 30 min or so, initially I was worried but when it come to doing the slower stuff just before my mod 1 I was so use to riding the bike anyway it all came right very quickly.

Anyway, glad you've enjoyed your first ride, good luck with the rest of the training.

The first time on pad i was trying to hard and just making a mess of things instead of just relaxing,

The road ride this time i think it helped alot as i felt alot more at home on the big bike,

Well my mod 1 is booked for next month but would like to get out again between now and then, oh and fix my clutch on my bike

Yeah relax, keep you head up and look where you want to go and the bike will follow.

Nice, I certainly felt more comfortable handling the big bike with a bit of road experience, you are practicing slow speed stuff without thinking about it so it's all good.

Good luck, keep us updated.
