Bad noise from the front suspension, can't find the cause!

Featured Replies

Hello from Sweden!

I have a 2003 Octavia vRS Mk1, and after i replaced the bushings in the anti roll bar under the car, this amazing noise appeared.
I've had the car on a lift and trying to make the sound appear with a long crowbar in all the spots i could imagine doing the sound, but nothing.

Does anyone have an idea on what's causing the squeek?

Here's a video of the noise:

I hope someone knows what's wrong :notme:

Thanks

Did you put the new bushes in dry?

Nope, the new bushes came with some kind of lube that we put on. The sound appeared instantly after the bushes where changed. The old bushes where really worn out. so much that the bar rattled at low speeds.

Also, is the paint on the ARB under the bushes intact.

O/T but congratulations on how smoothly you drive.

No, actually it was quite rusty and the paint where the bushing is was allmost gone. So new ARB and Coupling Rod/Strut Stabiliser should solve the issue? According to VAG this is a normal issue, but no one knew how to fix it here in Sweden...

@KenONeill, Haha, thank you!

You probably don't even need the drop links; the noise is probably the ARB rattling in the mountings. Which is why I asked about the condition of the paint under the old ones.

It's a dry creaking sound when the ARB turns in the bushes. Are they poly bushes or just standard ones?

They are standard VAG-ones, from the Skoda Dealership.I called my local workshop just now and they said it could be the 'Front Strut Top Mount' (Thank god for google translate.) also.

Do you guys know anywhere I can purchase what I need to get it fixed, I'm about to buy a Fabia vRS 1.9Tdi and I just wan't to fix the Octy for cheap so I can sell it :)

Seems a bit too much of a coincidence to me that the noise started immediately after you changed the ARB bushes. You could try disconnecting the anti roll bar and driving a short distance. If the noise is gone you would know it's coming from the bar.
