Front damage hit deer

Featured Replies

Hi, Help needed please Fabia 1.9tdi 2004

1. Is there a workshop manual available?

2. How do I remove the Badged Grill , and can a replacement be bought, if so rough estimate how much and where from

3. How is the bottom front skirt?bumper (with the front fogs in) attached/removed.. It all looks just to be sprung from whatever retains it at the front offside

4. The bit next to the front fogs, that I belive you have to remove to change the lamp in the front fog, again how do you remove those

Two deer spang over the fence from the woods right in front of me, hit them both front offside

The car appears OK drives OK just the badge grill is broken but I have all the parts so if I can release the grill I could glue it back together at a push

The bottom skirt bit I feel someone is going to tell me will have plastic lugs that will have sheared rendering a repair useless (I hope not I am broke after buying the car. I am fully comp insured but have just started insurance in my own right when I bought the car eight weeks ago)

Thanks in anticipation National aka Jimbo

Bumper unclips from wing, after undoing the torx bolts in the arch. Then there's two big bolts down by the radiator which releases it at the front. I think there's some torx underneath that need removing too.

The panels by the foglights just popped out I thought?

Did you keep the deer to freeze in for some venison? :D

Will you be doing a group buy on Venison???????????????????

The main thing is that you got out ok without injury, the car can be repaired.

Thank you for the bumper info, Will have a go in the daylight tomorrow

Just I rely on the car for work, and do not want to start something I can not finish for Monday

Again with the foglight panels, on first inspection they are pushed well back under the bumper, but felt fairly flexible so could be a gentle coaxing to get them back

One Roe Deer is gutted and hanging in the shed the other went under and was too damaged to be of use

As for a group buy yes too Dear, no really if any of the posters I then happen to meet at Knockhill one day then the steaks are on me

My wife and I were safe just a bit of a shock to see four deer spring over the fence into our path then big bang hit two, one flew in the air and one went under. all in a couple of seconds

I was quiet suprised at what appears on the surface to be little damage

as the last time I witnessed this at the same site the car was almost a write off I think it was an Escort!

I just hope what appears to be a broken badge grill (glueable) and a bumper that seems to have a wider joint with the top body, is as simple as it appears and that there are not plastic lugs broken off that mean a new bumper/skirt

(I am not sure how to describe it, it is the joint midway down the headlight level sprung and the foglight panel pushed back under the lower skirt bit)

Thanks for all the advise guys so far

Get the car driveable, If it looks bad its ammazing what a roll of Duck tape & cable ties will fix. Then trawl the salvage yards on the net for bits, get a quote from a body shop for spraying them, that way you will not neccesarily have to get bits in the right colour & will know what to pay.

Also get quotes off Skoda for new bits as in my experience prices bear little resemblance to what you think they are worth.

If your fully comp get a body shop to give you a quote, that way you will get an "expert" to look at it. You may not want to claim but they will spot any damage thats not obvious, it might be worse than you think

Butts of Bawtry also do a nice line in after market Grills & Bumpers etc. Get prices off them as well, you might not want them but its sometimes good amo to use when knocking down scrappies. ( you know the Im not paying

Jimbo if you let me know what parts you want from the drawing I should be able to tell you the retail prices for them if that helps.

Hopefully some won't be as deer as you expected.

Nice one Xavier

Again thank you all for the help

The job is done.

The badge grill I stripped off , then superglued some of the splines back in place, appears perfect, do not know what rain will do to superglue though

Main bumper facia, could never have managed it without the help given

so with confidence I went in and did it, just the two supports that hold the

front fog lamps were sheared, so I am afraid it was a bodge job with araldite

but it is completely hidden from external view

and the foglamp access covers just prised out, sprang back into shape themselves, and I reffited

Not a bad job at all considering I had to ask last month How to change a headlamp bulb. You will make a mechanic, body panel specialist out of me yet

Thanks all for your help and understanding

Regards Jimbo

Jimbo, a few from here are meeting at Star Performance next Saturday for a RR day with the Seat guys, your more than welcome to pop along if your free. :)
