Vcd for fitting Columbus in 2012 Fabia with swing radio

Featured Replies

Hi everyone I am new here I recently bought a Fabia estate and would like to install a Columbus sat nav I have a swing radio at the moment and the car is a se trim.on reading some of the threads on fitting a Columbus I think I need a vcd to update the car is this correct and where would I get one cheers

Interesting to find the answer as i have a 2010 with the Swing and was told by my local Skoda dealer that it was a no no and would be very expensive and difficult to do.

When I put columbus in my monte it didn't need any coding, everything worked even parking sensors on screen, but I didn't have Maxidot.

When I swapped it into my vrs with Maxidot everything worked bar the Maxidot, forgot to ask skoda to enable it whilst it was in for a service, came out working so got lucky with that!

It'll work, but to get full functionality and remove any reoccuring fault codes, it'll need coding with VCDS.

5 minutes to do this (10 including a full scan before & after). Check the VCDS owners map in this forum and PM someone close to you.

I wouldn't leave it to or pay a dealer to do it.

takes about 5 minutes to change them over and about the same again to re code, so yes about a day for a main dealer!

Cheers for the info, i will keep an eye open for a mint (but used) unit, if not then i will go for one of those chineses things that cost about £200, not as good i think but not too bad from what i have heard.

The unit would be plug and play but if you add the bluetooth and mic you would need it coding. I think (can't remember) if you have the maxi dot display vcds would be needed to get the directions showing.

As said coding is quick so find a member to help out.

I tried the cheepish ebay ones but there really not as good compared plus they gave little integration with the rest of the car.

It's not strictly correct to say the unit is plug & play. It depends on how the unit was coded into the car it came out of and what options it had enabled. It's entirely possible that you can install one and everything works, but then again it's also possible that some functions don't work if they were disabled previously. Also, if you don't have a nav unit option in the car to start with then it may work, but you'll have errors thrown up when you (or the dealers) do a vcds scan. If you're happy with that then okay, but it's not hard to do the job properly.
