Auto lights - dash board

Featured Replies

Evening all.

The new VRS doesn't seem to have an icon for telling you the lights are on. It makes no difference whether they are on auto or manual - there is literally no way of telling they are on unless you can physically see the beams. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance

I think the light icon on the switch turns green when they are on... Not very good, I know..

Nope, same on SE-L.

I look for the sat bag to change colour lol :-)

As said. The bulb symbol on the light dial goes green when the lights are on.

That's pretty bizarre but you have to love Skoda for these sorts of things.

Thanks all :-)

Having read this thread:

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/325075-light-switch-dipped-beam-indication/

I also asked the dealer whilst I was there the other week, and they said that the symbol has been removed from the dash because of the addition of automatic headlights on most cars.

Not sure how that makes sense as not all Octavia's have auto lights; and there are many, many cars with auto-lights and still a symbol on the dash.

Personally, I find it hideously irritating that it isn't there :@

Oh, and he also said it cannot be enabled :(

Totally agree although I got slated on a previous thread when i said how poorly the indicator is

Fine of course at night when they are other signs that the lights are on , like being able to see the road in front;)

We have three cars with auto lights and the others have a bulb on the dash, our Superb did but not the MK3, the small light on my car is hidden by my wrist when i drive anyhow

This is mine "on" during the day

It is very poor I agree.

The two ways Intel if they're on is the sat nav colour changes to night mode. And also if you use the windscreen washers, the first use when the headlights are on also activates the headlight wash. Not ideal but it indicates the headlights are on.

Sat nav only changes if its set to , i prefer to set mine myself so mine is on day all the time

Why do you need to know if the lights are on when in auto, is it to gauge which sensor setting you want?

1- Who is saying auto is being used? Some may not always use it, even if they have it. I dont always.

2- To make sure auto is actually working? Just a possibility

Why do you ever need to know your lights are on ? So that in times of reduced visibility other drivers can see you ie fog, rain, tunnels etc

If everyone wore night vision goggles everyone could drive around with no lights on

Simples

Our cars are parked in a dark garage, the auto headlight setting causes the lights to come on briefly each time the car is started and then again when put away.  Not good for HIDs so I don't leave it in auto.

1. So that I can tell if they're on when I think they don't need to be.

2. So that I can tell that they're off when I think they should be on.

3. So that I can do both of those almost unconsciously, without having to look at the switch.

4. Because my OCD likes something that can alternate between different states to have a designated symbol/light informing me so.

Don't get me wrong, it is easy enough to look at the switch, it's just highly, highly irritating 0 not having a little light IMO. :p

But then I would drive around with full beam to bugger up the goggles sensors lol :-0

Wire up a big flashing bulb to the light so that it illuminates when they are on :-)

I do remember Tandy or Maplin selling something that did this with fibre optics many many years ago.
