Servicing records

Featured Replies

Out of interest, with Skoda now being electronic on servicing records and not having service books.

When servicing at an independent, is it literally a case of keeping invoice records now?

Unless youve got a book they can stamp

My 2013 came with one

Just a way of trying to get you to stay in the dealer service network. My first variable service at 15 months cost £195, assuming my next one is about the 2.5 year mark that's going to cost nearly £300. The first one was basically an oil and filter change and the second will be the same with a few minor other parts changed/checked, complete rip off but necessary to keep the warranty valid. Once out of warranty it won't be going anywhere near the main dealer again for any work.

Yes basically.

You should get them to stamp the service book for you but then also keep a copy of the invoice for the work.

There is no service book with newer cars. Otherwise it would be as normal.

I just had my first 10k service done today for £110 by a vag specialist independent. Skoda wanted £170 for it.

You don't have to use Skoda to keep the warranty. As long as the place doing the work is vat registered.

You could buy a service book from the dealer. Think they cost iirc £12. Then get stamped by whoever services it. £110 still dear for an oil change.

Indeed it is, but cheapest your going to find it for a vat reg specialist.

I would do it myself if it didn't screw the warranty and history

I wondered about this electronic service history as well. Mine came with one and I am thinking of using an independent right from the first service. Obviously I can do this without it affecting my warranty but they will have nothing to stamp. I guess all you can do is keep the invoices as proof of the servicing. I had thought of maybe printing off a page for the garage to put its stamps on, just to keep things neat and ordered.

What years your car?

Can you not buy a service book from the dealer?

As above, my 2013 came with one new.

Out of interest I purchased a service book today from eBay. Skoda duplicate book.

Even though it's not original with the car in going to keep it for records as a back up along with all of the invoices.

Doesnt really matter what it is, if the dealer will stamp it and its got the mileage written down, thats all there really is to it i guess.

An A4 piece of paper would do i guess. Its there isnt it.

There is a local VAG specialist that I trust but I still get the car serviced at the dealer - I know the dealer is more expensive but in the grand scheme of owning and running a car the difference is peanuts - there's also convenience of the dealer being located within walking distance of my work, so I can take the car in in the morning and pick it up after work.

What are your reasons for getting it done at the dealer mate? Other than it being close

I can't rationalise it, but in the last eleven years I've always had my cars serviced at dealers (all VAG cars - two VWs and two Skodas). I suppose with having the extended warranty on the vRS it may make things a little smoother should the engine or DSG go pop - service history is electronically recorded rather than having to provide proof the car has been serviced in accordance with Skoda's service schedule.

Costs vary as well - I did look into getting my MKI vRS serviced at an indie (this was before I discovered the one close to me) and the difference between the indie (Audi VW Repair Centre) and dealer was minimal (about 10 or 20 quid from memory).

The place you go happens to be staffed by some of the good guys as well, and they get the money for old rope so can not really go wrong,

and its not like you do high mile.

Just had a butcher's at Audi VW Service Centre's menu pricing - strangely they have prices for the Audi 1.4 TSi but not VW or Skoda (it has prices for VW and Skoda 1400s but going by the prices I assume they just mean the n/a ones).

A VW Dealer will usually service a Twincharger cheaper than a Skoda Dealer in the same area.

If you want a 'Major / Inspection Service' or Minor Service and the Spark Plugs Change at the Service it is no issue and might be £50 or more less than the Skoda Dealers Service Desk Computer comes up with.

Unfortunately the choice of VW dealers in Glasgow is Arnold, Arnold or Arnold.

Best where you go already then.

Mines a 64. Yep I could buy a service book from them, but didn't really want to have to spend out on one or line Skodas pockets even more.

I have actually noticed on ebay that you can buy generic service record books with spaces for recording services and stamping. These are only about 2-3 quid, so I might just get one of them at some point.
