First 'DA Detail'

Featured Replies

I am no where near the standard of most of you chaps on here, however I have been getting to grips with the difference between detailing and scratching my car with a sponge for the last year or so! I progressed onto wash mitts and microfibre towels, to hand polishing and now have obtained a DAS6 Pro to move things on a little; so hence a little write up, mainly so you can offer any suggestions/alternative ways for the future!

I think I am fairly decent with the pre wash routine now! I didn't clay the car as it was done a few months ago, but I have been ultra busy with the house I have not washed the car for ages, so the previous wax was buried under a load of muck! Did use tar remover and some fall out remover too to ensure I finished with a good surface for polishing.

Out with the new DA for the first polish (Poorboys SSR2) on a medium pad (blue) which didn't lift the swirls much at all, so switched to a firm (orange) pad which seemed to work better, there was however a few swirls left which I will tackle (after some advice from you lot) next time!

It took me a while to get used to the speed of the DA and to learn to control the pace, which I got better at in the end. I switched to a smaller backing plate and pad for some of the niggly bits which worked well.

Followed that up with a 2nd polish using Menzerna Super Finish 4500 on a finishing pad (black) then finally added Poorboys White Diamond Glaze on another finishing pad. After all that the car did look good but I was starting to battle with the weather (spent the last 3 days turfing so glad of the rain to be honest) and needed to move the car under the car port and do a section at a time.

Followed the polish/glaze process with an IPA wipe down before applying Hellshine Abyss Spray Sealant (can anyone tell me how long I should get from this). Wanted to put two coats on but between the rain and 'er indoors I needed to shut up shop and get inside!

Anyway, picture after the Menzerna;

And a beading picture after the Abyss when the front end was protruding from the car port;

Quite please with my first attempt, although I know I have some way to go to catch up with some others!

Awesome job Andy

Very well done

Just one point

You don't use IPA after glazing

This will have removed it all

IPA after polish prior to the Glaze and LSP

Hope that makes sense

Thanks Chris.

Bit gutted about the glaze now!

Next time!

Looks great!!! Really well done.

They are tricky to control at first but it will be like second nature before long.

Shame about the glaze but not a catastrophe, I wouldn't imagine it would have made a massive difference to the finish; it looks great. White looks great when all polished up, and you've done it justice.

Thanks for sharing. :thumbup:

What durability have those using Abyss seen?

Lovely job

You should easily get 3 possibly 4 months from it

TBH..Its so easily to apply, just top up whenever you want
