Awfully loud tires

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Thought I might share an experience. In april I bought new summer tires, specifically these ones http://img15.olx.ro/images_mercadorro/63890852_2_644x461_anvelope-noi-195-65-r-15-sebring-sporty-401-cu-montaj-inclus-fotografii.jpg

Its brand name is Sebring Sporty 401.

You can probably hear in the video (https://youtu.be/Hwm3n829K7s ) the noise they are making. It was so loud that I was convinced by myself that my wheel bearings are shot but after my service man had taken a look, he convinced me that the wheel bearings are just fine.

You can hear the tires pretty well from 39th second and then from 2:30 when I was braking.

I did a search on the internet and it seems that it is the tread (pattern) on the tires that causes such noise. Also, I can feel in the car the roughness of the road.

You do get a step change in tread on some tyre brands which go through a noise phase as they wear through it, my local reckons Maxxis are renowned for it. The tread on those looks pretty choppy as they are as well, could be a combination of both things going on. Thanks for sharing that. Have you contacted the supplier?

They were bought from a local tyre shop. But anyway, I will switch back to winter tyres in 2 months and I will talk to him about this.

Either I

  • keep them
  • or sell all of them
  • or buy some softer tires to the front the next spring when I will switch back to summer tyres.

Check the rear tyres on the inside and if you run your hands on the inside edge of the tyre you will find its all lumpy... If so slap 2 new ones on the rear problem solved :-) if I were you I would change tyre brand to something that's none direction and go to asymmetrical

How much did they cost as the look like these are a cheap budget tyre.

Found a site with 205/50 17s at 53 euros.

I would suggest getting a better quality tyre next time.

They usually have a decibel rating even budget tyres. I had a lumpy inner on the rear and just changed them for budget tyres. No issues with noise. 33.75 gbp for a 205/55/16!!!

But yes if you can afford it buy quality tyres as they are usually quieter. Although my step dad did have a noise issue with previous expensive tyres on his vrs. Not always a guarantee.

Wearing lumpy on the inside would thought mainly down to rear alignment?

Or is it the way some tyres are when they are made?
