Fabia MkII Estate lowering problem

Featured Replies

Hi

Just got my car 11/2010 Fabia (1,6 TDI) fitted with a set of FK 40mm lowering springs.

The front axel is lowered about 30mm. Just fine.

But the rear axel is higher, about 24mm, than with the stock springs.

FK doesnt know what the problem is. Their technician is looking into it. The springs are the correct ones for my car.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Has there been any changes in the suspension from pre-facelift to facelift or something like that?

Welcome to the forum.

Sorry i know nothing about the estates and can not open your links.

You say they are the correct springs for your car, so i take it the rears are for an Estate and a Diesel.

**Maybe post the Part Number of the rears and fronts.**

In Denmark could the estate have come new with 3 different height of Suspension as Factory Build / Dealer Options.?

eg 'Standard', Sport', 'Rough Road' (more clearance).

Hi

The springs is for an Estate and a Diesel :-)
The part numbers are:

Front: FKS368VA - Rear: FKS368HA And the partnumber for the set is: FKSK014

I dont think there is any diffences in Denmark. Mine is called a Sport, but its only seats, steerings wheel, gear knob and handbrake, thats a diffence. The suspension is standard.

We dont even have the RS version in Denmark.

When lowering an estate the back is always going to sit higher because you can carry more weight in the back as opposed to the hatchback. But from experience having the back sitting up a little higher will make the car handle better because it tends to keep the weight over the front wheels and stop weight transfer under acceleration which means better traction.

Yes having the back sitting up high will not look the prettiest but it is the best setup for handling hence why the aftermarket spring manufactures set their springs this way.

He is saying that the 40mm lowering springs have the rear of the car sitting (or the rear axle) 24mm higher than the Stock Springs.

But then you need to really compare the new springs as you received them before fitting with the ones you remove,

then also take into account the new ones once fitted will settle.

EDIT.

Looking at that FK 40mm Springs for Fabia Combi /Roomster (FKSK014) it says not to use 40mm lowering springs with

Standard Dasmpers, just Sport Suspension Dampers.

??

How are the dampers looking with the new FK Springs fitted, do the have travel both ways with weight in the rear of the Fabia?

........................

My pretty new handed lift springs bought and fitted last week to my Jimny,

(they seldom stay looking good for long.)

Havent seen that note about dampers. But normally they say if you lower more than 40mm, you'll need shortned sport dampers. But for 40mm or less i have never heard it before.

There is lots of travel both ways on the dampers.

Is it me or are the links not working? Just links to a blank page....?

I know mine isn't an estate, but I lowered mine on standard shocks and it seems just fine. I even asked at MOT time if it was ok and they said up to 40mm you can get away with it, any lower new shocks are required.

I can understand why lowering springs would make the car higher at the rear. Have you took anything out of the rear to make it lighter?
