Highly recommended wheel cleaner!

Featured Replies

Just thought I'd share this one with everyone...

Wonder Wheels Hot Wheels is a fantastic product, and right now is in Asda for £4 for 500ml - somewhat of a bargain if you ask me.

My new L&K has the polished rims, so didn't want to use anything harshly acidic on them (used to just use Autoglym Clean Wheels on my other cars, which was great but very strong acid!). This Hot Wheels stuff is similar to the Iron Killer / Fallout products that react with the brake dust to break it down - changes colour to red too when you know it's done its job!

So before I start using my new car, I thought I'd clean my company car before handing it back - haven't washed it in 5 months, and a quick application of WW Hot Wheels, quick going over with an alloy wheel brush and they look brand new!! Glad I tested it on that haha!

Will definitely be using on my new car, great product! Cheap and safe for all wheel types!

Good stuff! You never know with some of these products you can get cheaper in the supermarket, but hit a winner with that!

One thing I can reccomend (although it's aimed at the bike market) is Sdoc100. Its awesome at getting brakedust and oily grime off.

I've found that Wurth Aluminium Wheel Cleaner is excellent, having previously used on a bike, they also do a brake cleaner as well, which is also very good.

Another vote for WW hot wheels, love it when it bleeds. It's PH neutral so is gentle on the alloys.

Sure it's wilkinsons that do a 750ml bottle that works out slightly cheaper.

I'll check that out, cheers. Although I can't remember the last time I saw a wilkos...thought they must have gone bust!

I bought some today at spazda on this thread and I'm very impressed. Mind you its hardly baked on dust so ill try to overcome my ocd and leave them to get dried on.

Glad I read this tonight, brought some from tesco the other week, but it's sat in the garage as I've yet to pluck up the courage to use it. I'll now do it next weekend

Just a light spray and work it in with a small brush and leave for 15 minutes

Then wash off..Job done

It will turn from light pink to dark purple if it encounters brake dust

If really bad, then another application may be necessary

15 mins? Won't it dry on by then? My wheels on my Mazda were filthy after not being cleaned for 5 months and I literally sprayed on, left for 2 mins at most, give a light going over with a brush, and just rinsed off with a hose pipe...job's a good un!

I use the Wurth premium rim cleaner, its one of the best wheel cleaners I have used.

You're right, it is £5 for 750ml from Wilko.

I have been using Bilt Hamber Auto Wheel and Sonax Xtreme which are about £13 per litre so will switch to WW as they all do the job equally as well.

At each seasonal change from winters to summers and back I wash the wheels by brushing on some 50% diluted PH neutral sno foam, then rinse off.

Then apply poorboys wheel sealant.

These wheels then get put into storage.

The ones coming out get another coating of poorboys, that's it...

Wheels come up like new every time.

Yes and no..It depends on the ambient temperature

2 mins is nowhere near long enough for the product to react with the brakedust/ferrous particles

Drying on, is not a problem anyway as it quickly washes off with the pressure washer.

Be careful with the bargain wheel cleaners if using on diamond cut laquered wheels,as to work quickly they tend to be more acidic in their make up, il only use autoglym non acidic custom wheel cleaner, the one with the blue label, also use it on my rs1600i escort show car, as the wheel finish on those are wet painted not powdercoated, its also kinder to the skoda wheel cantre badge

This one specifically claims its ph neutral. I made sure as the sdoc stuff I have used I don't think is and it says on the bottle not to leave on for >x period of time.

Yeah WW Hot Wheels is definitely PH Neutral - works like a fallout remover rather than a traditional wheel acid cleaner.

Yes it can be used all over the paintwork and benefits from leaving it to work..then pressure wash off
