Speed camera and SMS warning

Featured Replies

Am I able, with VCDS, to have the Columbus give me an audible warning when I am approaching a pocketgps speed camera POI.

Also when I get an incoming SMS, along with the visual notification, can I get an audible warning.

POI alerts, no. Not possible I'm afraid without additional hardware. Some people use a standalone device to warn audibly.

SMS, no idea I'm afraid/

Ok thanks. I remember reading a thread here some time ago where a member said he had managed to get an audible warning for speed cameras but didn`t elaborate and I can`t find it anymore. I know I can use my pocketgps cameralert app on my phone so I`ll just plod on with that.

There is a way to cheat it but it is not perfect. If you have an iPhone and listen to the radio or music with that as the source you can run the PocketGPS App at the same time. It then does give you audible warnings but not f you use CD/DAB orv FM.

Thanks Garnett, unfortunately I don`t have an iphone, only a Note 3 but I`ll try that and see if it works.

It was myself who discovered this workaround....

You don't have to be listening to the iPhone music though. You can be listening to the radio or media on the Columbus and the PocketGPSWorld cameralert app sends the audible alert via the Bluetooth as though it is an incoming phone call then switches you back to tell radio etc... Once it's finished. (You have to set the cameralert app to output the audible warning via Bluetooth in its settings).

It's also not just an iPhone thing..... The cameralert app is also on Android....... In fact it's now ONLY available on Android as Apple won't allow the app on the App Store anymore so it cannot be purchased for iphones any longer.

Excellent, thanks for that, I'll give it a go later when I'm out.
