O/S rear door lock is temperamental

Featured Replies

Central locking on the car.

Unlocking by pressing a button on the keypad and the O/S rear door sometimes does not unlock.

With the key in the drivers door and turning it to lock the O/S rear door locking knob does not descend, i.e. it does not lock, and i you hold the key in position the windows close as per normal.

So assuming the locking module in this door has failed?

Also both rear door windows will not operate by pressing the button on each door, whereas they both work from the drivers door console.

After advice how to remove the door panel. It has the screws round the outside and a screw holding the speaker bracket in place. Not sure if the half the handle comes off to expose two screws and if the small cover of the outside handle has to be removed as per the driver's door?

not sure about your windows - may be a loom issue

for the doorlock yes the microswitches are likely to have failed - get a replacement and fit before it is permanently deadlocked

lock above looks fine

there is a good guide on www.pimpmyskoda.co.uk

You may be lucky with the rear doors and get more life out of them by lubricating the hell out of them. While you've got door cards off check the loom for wear as said, especially where the wires pass through door pillars. Other than that it could be down to multiplug pins, check for corrosion.

If the rear windows won't work from the rear doors, it's probably the isolation switch in the drivers door switch panel, that's pressed to stop them from being used in the rear.

Thank you for your replies.

In addition, when the driver's door is opened the LED on the instrument panel sometimes comes on and stays on as per normal.

Sometimes comes on then blinks for 10 seconds and then disappears

and sometimes does not come on at all.

The puddle light comes on as per normal and the internal light comes on ok as well.

When the other doors are opened the LED light come on and stays on as normal.

I replaced the driver's door lock assembly about six months ago as the puddle light did not come on and the car locked after 30 seconds.

So is this the central locking module failing?

I'd check the wiring loom in the drivers door for damage in the rubber boot between the 'A' pillar and door, also the multi plug on the bottom of the window motor can get corroded pins.

I removed the driver's door instrument console and then checked the faults.

1. Driver's side LED indicator works fine.

2. Both rear windows work on the door switch.

3. Driver's side rear door locks and unlocks on the keypad.

4. Driver's side rear door does not lock when using the key in the driver's door lock.

Three out of four for faults from the console switch.

I am relieved to have diagnosed the faults to this switch assembly, and I think they are pretty cheap on ebay?

I stripped the console switch assembly and it is not the switches or their contact probes with the PCB so it must be the PCB.

If you need a drivers door window switch panel, or other switches I can probably get them off my breaker as long as power isn't required. PM me if you need anything I'll see what I've got. All was working fine. I have lock mechs too, no drivers door loom or window motor though.

there is one on eBay at the moment that i've been watching here for £9.99  :notme:

I reassembled the switch console and checked to see it it still worked, which it did.

So I checked the rear door lock and that only seemed to work for four openings and closing and then stopped.

Bloody thing has jammed now so I am about to destroy it.
