Has anyone noticed this on a 1.4 16-valve engine (AUA/AUB/BBY/BBZ) or any other engine come to that?

From about 4.5k rpm, the rev counter starts moving up in little jumps instead of smoothly like it does up to this point?

Normal?

I had a mk3 ibiza where the speedo did this, above 35mph. Changed the battery and it improved, and it would start doing it above 60mph. If thats of any help lol

Not normal, mine moves smoothly to the limiter.

(@ Updown789) Thanks for the reply, but I think speedo and rev counter use different sensors, and I'm happy with my battery/charging I think. What engine was in that car?

@ sepulchrave; cheers, thought it might not be. Poss crank sensor degradation then, maybe?

It was an aud, 1.4 8v but it was just a possible reason for the stepper motors not working properly
