Thinking about buying a Fun, need some advice

Featured Replies

Hi folks. It's been a while since I posted on here, but I'm thinking about rescuing a slightly sad example of a Fun. It needs a fair bit of work; new front wings, rear shock turrets are rotten, sills not brilliant etc. On the plus side, the interior is quite good and complete, underbonnet area looks clean enough and it has only done 85k.

Before I make the current owner an offer, can anyone tell me where to buy replacement body panels? I've seen front wings for the Felicia hatch/estate on ebay, but are they the same as on the Fun? I'm a qualified welder/fabricator, so the rear turrets I can make from scratch.

I originally posted this in the classic projects forum.....and then noticed this one. Doh!

Any info would be appreciated, in the meantime here's a pic of it.

Regards

Marge

Front wings are the same, as is everything in front of the B pillar in relation to the pre facelift cars. most things are available as pattern dirt cheap.

There's quite a few layers of steel in the turrets. When I had mine done, the guy used a "squid" needle scaler and built them back a layer at a time.

Hi. Thanks for your reply. At least I know I can get panels for it. If I can get it for a song, I'll buy it. Test drive next.

Quick update: I've agreed terms with the seller, pending an actual test drive. Couldn't get it to start earlier this evening. Will need to go back with some jump leads, a battery pack wouldn't do it. It hasn't run for several months.

Look for signs of oil on the plugs. The stem seals on these engines are crap, and on the one I wasted my time rebuilding, the rings weren't much better.
