Replacing bosch o2 sensors with universal sensors...

Featured Replies

Hi guys!

So I was replacing the downpipe on my 1.8T 4x4 and ran into problems removing the O2 sensors...they won't budge. Tried penetrating oil, heat and breaker bars. Can't shift them.

...So the plan is to get a couple of new ones and stick them in with the new downpipe. My questions are as follows...

1. Apart from different lengths of wire attached, are there any mechanical differences between the pre and post-cat sensors?

2. Is there any reason why I shouldn't replace them with 4 wire universal o2 sensors? Far far cheaper than made-to-fit sensors.

All help is much appreciated :)

What's the part number on your sensors? I've got a spare genuine Bosch VW Audi sensor that came in a standard downpipe that I bought. If it matches one of your sensors, I'll send it over in exchange for a couple of beer vouchers.

Stick with genuine sensors, if the universal sensors are even slightly out of spec the engine light will be forever illuminated.

Oh really? That would be very helpful! So from a quick google I believe the front sensor is 0258007351 and the rear is 0258006980.

Any matches?

Thanks Mannyo, genuine Bosch it is then :) It's turning out to be a very expensive downpipe!

Just wondering though...Bosch do a universal fit 5 wire wideband sensor, presumably the sensor itself is identical and the only difference is the length of wires? Still genuine Bosch. Just want to tripple check as I'll have to take out a small mortgage otherwise!
