The wibbly wobbly timey wimey

Featured Replies

Hi everyone! I am new to this forum but i licked my way through almost all of the topics i seen here.

So i am a proud owner of a '97 reg Skodzilla. My problem is that when the engine is hot (meaning somewhere around 90-96 ish) the car seems to kick at idle. And by this i mean that it idles smoothly than out of the blue it jumps like the engine just wanted to cut out but it just really dosed of for a millisecond. It is really irritating. So I am going to list what i have done so far. Oh and also the engine is the AEE 1.6 8v version.

The car did this and sometimes did cut out when i bought it a few months back.

-Turns out two of the spark cables were broken at the connector and simply put back in place with glue, all of the cables, the spark plugs, the distributor and the distributor cap were changed. Problem still remained.

-Adjusted the ignition, it was a bit off , little better but problem is still there.

-Changed the lambda probe, turns out it was going slowly to the cemetery ( now i am around 5.8-6 litres/100 km in da city!!! ) problem still remained.

-Took apart the intake changed gaskets, cleaned everything, bought a clone vag cable, did basic settings. Car drove better but still would jump around.

-It turns out the original air filter housing was broken at a few places, replaced it with a cone filter, freshly oiled and purrs like a kitten. Problem still there.

-Did a full oil change with an oem filter but still no luck.

-Tried to read the data with the cag cable, idle is at 768-800-832 and according to vag scope and my feelings, the car does the thing when the revs drop to 768.

-Changed the CTS as the readings were a bit odd however the one that was in the car had a slim sensor probe and the new one has a larger circular probe but it fits nicely and the fan and dash now read correct temps but the problem is still there.

-Checked the fuel pump, runs nicely when hooked up to a battery and the voltages it is getting are stable.

What i checked was the intake air temperature sensor. Unplugged it reads -40 degrees , plugged back it reads the correctish temp. However there was no change in the running wether unplugged or not.

Also mostly the car does this when idling from higher revs, when just flowing in traffic with almost at idle and then stopping there is rarely any jump.

I am really at loss here guys. I read somewhere that the 8v is a bit jittery but this is ridiculus. Also the car has 255000 km in it. Sorry for the units but i am from Hungary :) Any advice or help would be really appreciated.

Hi!

I have the same car (and engine).

You have a lot of kilometers on the engine, mine was oil drinker at 210.000 km and I have done a engine reperature (complete engine head reperature and new piston rings).

For your problem I would try to change ignition coil and see if it helps. Bad ignition coil can make a lot of problems that you cant see on vag control (computer).

Sorry for bad english I am from Croatia.
