My fun is overheating and so far i have changed the thermohouse with the sensor and the radiator sensor with 3 pins. Its a 1.6 witch ac. Is it a 2 stage fan i have and what does it mean in that case? Shuld the fan spin direct when the ingine is on? Cant for the life of me figure out what the 3 relays under the Hood are for

A 2-stage radiator fan on any car means the fan will run slow first (1st stage) then fast (2nd stage) depending on the temperature of the coolant. The temperatures are marked on the box of the radiator fan switch.

 

The 3 relays? Whar 3 relays? Is this question related to radiator fan?

 

How did the overheating started? How bad was it? How hot was it outside?

It started when i picked the car up from Germany and drove it home (15hour drive) I noticed the temp going up and down but not past the 110C mark before the red on the meter and i dident drop much either.

The outside temp was about 30 C for the most or the ride. Speed was 120-140 kmh.

So when i got home i figured it was the thremostat. I replaced it and boiled it and it opens as i shuld. 

 

So to the relays.

 

The gray relay clicks when i short the red and black cable from the thermoswitch in the radiator and the fan kicks in (think its full speed) but i cant get it to spin "half speed"?

Whad are theese other relays for? Cant find any info on them.

 

Went for a ride last night for about 10 minutes in 18C heat, with the radiator fan fixed so it was on all the time and the temp still goes up. 

 

I have papers that the waterpump was changed with the cam belt 2000km ago but i hear a squiking noise (from the cam belt area)when i turn the car on and it goes away after a few minutes when its heated up.

Also noticed some blueish plastic in the pump when i changed the pipe betweenthe pump and thermo housing indicating a "original pump"? and not the one witht metal fins. Did not notice any debre when flushing the system

Most probably there is some sort of debris in the cooling system that prevents the pump rotating normally.

That is very bad for the engine. You can blow the head gasket or worse. The belt will soon tear off. And so on.

You have to act fast. Remove the hoses, flush the system until the debris falls out

You lost me here.

 

As for the relays I am sure one of many Fun owners here will tell you what each relay and fuse is, will upload for you a schematic to facilitate the diagnosis, and will assist you step by step until you solve the problem.

So my brother who gets electricity more than i do located this (see pic) as a problem for the low fan not working. Sits just by the fan and i have not found out what it is called so i can replace it.

Flushed out a small amount of junk from the system and it seemes to work alot better now but not sure about the thermostat, will order a propper one from skoda/vw.

Not sure what that is but it may be some sort of integrated  fan regulator which means it comes with the fan. Is that part flapping in the breeze without any cover?

That is an excellent idea. Thermostats for 1.6 engines are well known for not working well. But not because of the thermostat itself. It is a part of the plastic housing that breaks, a stopper where the plunger of the thermostat pushes into to open. Have a close look at it.

 

Very important! Never change just the thermostat. Buy one already mounted in its housing from factory.

The squeal from the belt may indicate the belt is not tensioned correctly or had been contaminated with some fluid or had been overheated.

Finally its somewhat normal again.

Turns out the thermostat was the major problem with my car. The 2 previous thermostats i bought were crap!

Lesson learned, buy once cry once. Go for original parts.

 

Next up is the fan regulator, quite expensive but mine might be rapairable.

Anything electronics is repairable. It wasn't assembled on ISS after all. Please show us what was wrong and how did you repair it.
