Car decisions.... (and a flurry of questions).

Thanks, I just wondered what the point in 6 gears actually is.

And that's fair bluecar :)

More of an economy thing than anything else. Optimum gear for each speed n all that, reduce emissions in a car like a fabia

Just drive it like you would a 5 speed, but theres another 1 to use lol

  • That engine is so quiet that you can hardly hear it revving. Id change gear at much higher revs if I wasnt told to But that motor works like the rubber-band motors on the model planes of my childhoo

  • It's certainly worth it, but I'm waiting for 3 months now and I'm dying inside :'(

Haha, awesome, thanks for explaining!

Whenever you need it.

The same way you know when to use 5th in a 5 speed box.

Itll drop the revs abit.

Just because its got a 6th it doesnt mean its much higher than a 5th would be in a 5speed. The ratios could be closer together

Youll be recommended to pop in the 6th as soon as hitting 80 kmh by that mr. know-it-all monitoring car computer. And that works jez fine :)

Ahaa. You dont have to use that, just knowing when to change gear should come naturally anyway? :D

Well guys, it's over. Thank you for all your help. I've just bought a Fabia 1.2 TSI (90 ps), SE L, with pretty much every extra (bar a few big ones like panoramic roof), and the dealer gave me 8.9% off the value as per my best car wow quote! Saved me over £1500 from my previous quote, still got 0% Apr, a year of free insurance, and £500 dealer contribution! I'll post photos when it arrives late October. Sadly it was a factory build, but I can wait... It's like an early Christmas present!

Is the year of free insurance across the Fabia range or model specific or even dealer specific?

Not seen it advertised anywhere?!

Ah i know what you mean. It is quiet. But still aha.

It's arrived. What the hell.... 5½ weeks since the order. 15 days ago I got an email saying the build had started, and I just got a call saying it's here and will be ready for collection early next week!

Oh and one question - I'm going to keep the car for 3/3.5 years then most likely trade it in for another. In terms of the service, is it best to pay a monthly figure to cover services, or just pay at the time of servicing as and when? Cheers.

How funny, emailed my dealer today to check build date (originally week 48 / last week in November) and he said it's being built this week! Must have had dozens of diesels cancelled I reckon.

So on that basis hoping mine will be ready to collect in the next month.

I think you're probably right Rob. Glad I didn't plump for the diesel now (not that I needed it anyway). Madness though, that's an incredibly quick turnaround considering my build was started 15 days ago. Much emptier cargo ships from Germany as well I rekcon. With that, I would imagine yours may even arrive in the UK before the end of this month!
