5th gear surging after remap

Featured Replies

Yeah I think if it was n75 there may be more issues, still worth trying though. It's one of those rule things out until you get there issues without being able to log fully. Hopefully the smoke test will show something up, rough idle is often airflow related. I'm surprised Shark said that though, I would have thought if it could be replicated anywhere it would be on the rollers, still what do we know eh?

DEFO NEED TO DO ON ROLLING ROAD

Totally agree with this.  I had four plug & play remaps on my Octavia before I admitted that I should have stumped up for a custom map done on a rolling road.  Once the custom map was on the car, it ran like a dream for the following three years before I sold the car.  RS Tuning in Leeds is the place to go if you're anywhere near.  It ain't cheap but neither were all the associated troubles, faffing about & ballache when I was running the generic 1.8t maps.

What company's did you use before your custom map?

shark should be able to fix it in fairness

Just spoke to shark and it's booked in for Monday. Asked about the rolling road and he said it's very unlikely to show up on it so not really worth doing.

I think Shark use an eddy current dyno. If so then yes I'd agree that surging might not show up, because the dyno electronics will apply and remove load too quickly for the surge to be detectable.

I'm sat in here now. Apparently they have a map made ready to try so hopefully it will sort it. Also going to have a smoke test done on it while I'm here. Fingers crossed it will get sorted.

good luck dude there good lads

Surging is now sorted. Had a mixture of stage one and stage two to get it to run right. He did say my idle was normal but it wasn't shaking when it was there. Typical lol.

Really glad that Ben and his team sorted out your issue(s). But I'm going to have to have a rant about the "stage" nonsense! It's got X and Y nailed to it with mapping to suit. Job jobbed. Stage 1/2/3/4/infinity can bite me...

Good times mate. How has it been since?

I took it up to some fair speed in 5th and it just pulls now. :) as for the idle I'm not sure. Iv got a tuning company near me that specialises in mitsubishi cars, just dropped him a msg and he will smoke test my car for £30 so going to do that. Orderd up new inlet manifold gasket and injector seats over the weekend. Might get my manifold powdercoated and stick it on.

Yeah it could well be the surging and idle were 2 separate issues. There can be a few reasons for a rough idle, air being the first thing I would check. Glad the software is sorted though.

I have noticed my mpg has dropped by about 5 mpg. Can't even achieve 35mpg on a run now. Used to get 41mpg on the same route.

Sounds like whatever it is is effecting your mixture then init. Hopefully the smoke test will show it up.

You probably already know this, but "stage N" packs really go back to the days of carbs and clockwork ignition when different tuners might use brand X rather than brand Y manifolds or cams, but they'd all put on the same parts at each stage.
