Smartlink with bolero

Featured Replies

Hi all I am a new member today so please forgive me if this question has already been asked and answered by but can you use the sygic android app to mirror onto a standard bolero unit? Thanks in advance

Yes providing your car has the MIB2 Bolero (fitted since late May/MY16 builds) and you ticked the App connect option. App connect is really just a licence code applied to the unit from the factory...any MIB2 Bolero has the hardware and software components to support app connect but its not activated as standard in most markets. Might be in yours though if you are from outside the UK

And do long as you ticked the box "smartlink" as there's no box called app connect unless you bought a vw :-)

My mistake, same difference :-) cheers domhnall

Just thought it might confuse the heck out of the guy with boxes he couldn't tick, it's confusing enough already :-)

Thanks guys, yeah got kinda confused there lol. Yeah I ticked smartlink for £150, just thought I'd be a cheapskate and not pay for the sat nav unit. Got an 11 week wait for my car, toooo long :/

If you're an android user chances are your phone and car will default to android auto and Google maps

I believe that Google maps will initially show up on the screen but will go off when the car starts to move

Nope. Not true.

It works and works well. You can even ask Google questions

Sweet, did see a video on YouTube with it not working. Maybe it was an older video

That was the mirrorlink set up on pre week 22 fabias. Smartlink is the replacement and includes android auto, Apple car play and mirrorlink.

Well, according to my testings if few days of ownership with Galaxy S4 Mini I cant get Google maps to work or even get listed on Mirrorlink screen.

Just installed Sygic Car Navigation and was impressed that I finally got at least one app on Mirrorlink and finaly Bolero screen. I started to drive and it failed immediately with message that it cant be used while driving. Huawei P7 not even working/supported or not working.

I'm not a novice in using IT nor smartphones so I'm affraid that my euros for Smartlink went into fog...

Apparently as I found in Fabia forum, there are only few phones working as we all expect and one of them is One M8. I will try to lay my hands on one of thoose by borrowing it...

you need to try with android auto, mirrorlink will not let you use sygic while driving.

the samsugn galaxy S4 works fine, the Motorola Moto x works, the LG G4 works.....

I have an Xperia Z3 compact. I've still got an 11 week wait for delivery though, what am I gonna with myself for 11 weeks! Lol

No, was my idea also but there is no Lollipop update for S4 mini and therefore You cant use Android auto. Its also my business phone so I cant flash and play with unofficial ROM and miss some importaint calls due to a bad ROM. New available phones too big for me, only Z3 compact fits but the same limitations with Smartlink as I saw. Stuck there.

Will get my hands on my S6 edge I left in company's IT closet cause it was too big...its sitting there as a backup eitherway. Anyone running it on Bolero?

I would suggest the Moto G range (excellent phones) but they have some sort of clash with android auto which motorola and google are trying to sort out

Got it today, same equipment (S4 mini)! Still throwing messages but it disappears and continues to navigation. Strange glitches....

All I did except from Yesterday is that I refreshed certificates in Mirrorlink menu for both entries, Phone and Sygic.

Had 2 short travels, working ok. Only issue is that it does not set lower volume to radio/media before voice announcement. The voice just mixes with active media/song.

And if You use BT connection also, every notification on mobile phone stops media. Didnt try with radio...

Hi all, I'm currently researching the spec for a near future jump to a new Yeti and I'm weighing up the SE L additional options.

If the smartlink works as well as it should am I right in saying that Bolero+DAB+Smartlink would give me everything that the Amundsen upgrade would and more (albeit relying on my mobile phone)?

Thanks in advance from a first time poster.

Not exactly.....the maxidot integration is a key win with the OEM nav....in that nav info displays in the dash binacle too.

Google Maps is pretty good but you only get the mapping on the main screen and its also reliant on a data connection to keep the mapping running (I believe...Ive never used it in anger). Its good though and more integrated than a dash mount ;-)

You can cache Google maps for use offline. You may lose the traffic updates but you don't have to have data running and download on WiFi at home.

Download offline maps:

Make sure that you're connected to the Internet, then open the Google Maps app .

Sign in to your Google account.

Search for a place, such as "Southampton". Pinch and zoom to select the area that you want to save.

To save the selected area of the map, touch the menu > Make available offline.

Ahhh, yes thanks for that reminder re. the maxidot, I had an Octavia with Amundsen a couple of months back as a courtesy car for a couple of days that had it.

The use of data doesn't bother me as I use Google maps on my phone when driving on a regular basis at the moment, albeit with the phone in a holder.

Thanks for the pointers, will go away and way up the options, looking at a Yeti Outdoor SE L or SE Business

I appreciate that this is the Octavia area of the forum but this conversation was on the right subject.

Google maps keeps going with the occasional loss of signal, not sure how often it needs to connect but I've not had issues so far.
