So am I soft in the head ?

I plugged in New A6 2.0 TDI Ultra SE 4dr S Tronic with £810 parking pack:

Finance Offer
£27,253
£7,382 off
21.3% saving

Seem to be some serious discounts around, might be the new A6 just around the corner. Not that far off the price I've gotten for a Superb SE L 1.4 TSI 150 DSG with a few extras.

But it’s still missing the spec fom a SE L Excecutive, so not like for like.

FWIW I bought a loaded L&K 190 DSG for that sort of money, (with a 21% discount)

Yeah, I still feel the Skoda is the best choice, just surprised how discounted the A6 is at the moment. The new A4 Avant on the other hand is Starting at £30k+. :)

That is typical of A6 discounts for the last couple of years

Last couple of years? Geez, I thought it might just be before a new version was released.

The Audi has been discounted similarly for at least 18 months, its nothing new. Its an old platform in comparison although you could also argue, more tried and tested. :)

Where did you get the price for the Skoda? The price for a basic spec SE L 1.4 150 DSG is less than 21K on coast2coast.

Carwow.co.uk, From a Skoda dealer in Lincoln. Base price they've offered me was £25,800ish including Rear camera and Park Assist with around £1300 discount and £2000 dealer contribution. £247 payments over 42 months and £9280 final payment. £5650 trade in for my Golf.

Not sure about buying from brokers and how to work with a trade in. Car was keyed right down one side so I thinhk trying anything like WeBuyAnyCar or other similar service would probably result in huge reduction in offer for the vehicle (although the Skoda dealer has of course been informed of the paint damage) but will have a look at Coast2Coast, thanks.

I think a car is worth what you see in it, the problem with some premium brands is they give you items you don't need, and all the desirable ones are cost options.  You are making a sensible choice by buying what you value without paying for things you didn't really need.

I'm looking at the SE L executive and considering adding £3000 of options, some may say I'm mad, but I would like the panoramic roof and ventilated seats, even if I bought the L&K I would have to add these.

So reality is 1.5k of options that I could get on a L&K without paying extra £4k.  (I would never use some L&K features).   I'm also hearing good things about the 1.4 TSi ACT DSG so tending this way, it is cheaper than the diesel, and it should be cheaper to maintain over the many years I intend to keep it, even if it needs slightly more fuel.

Colour choice is difficult, already have a roomster in petrol blue, not keen on white or grey (been watching a motorpoint site for petrol autos for 3 weeks, loads of fiestas and auris etc, the grey ones don't sell but other colours go quickly),  the burgundy looks odd around the rear lights, so considering magnetic brown (dealer had an Octavia scout in topaz brown and it looked great) or maybe cappuccino.

They've got pricing on the new A4s? Should be a decent car - but will be very expensive to begin with.

Hi Surreyjohn if it helps we had a white with brown leather in the mkII and we absolutely loved it. Looked stunning even when dirty thanks to the extra polish on delivery. Now waiting for the MKIII but did not want white or brown as our car was written off (although we love it) and did not want reminder of crash so we decided beige leather as only other seat choice. This left us wanting a body colour and we went from cappuccino to finally deciding on the petrol blue. Spoke to Skoda about Race blue and they said it was not possible. Now waiting for December pickup.....

Im rather laughing inside....as Ive just come across this thread and it was me who originally made the comment :-)...I really didnt expect it to get its own thread.

Perhaps my comment was a little strong....if I were looking to buy one cash, with alot of discount and keep for a long time (as I anticipate Nick_H is most likely doing) its not a crazy thing to be doing.....its really that you can quite easily spec an L&K estate up to £40-odd grand and at that money (with no discounts in play) there are other cars I would rather be driving is all. Its just one mans opinion and not for people to get upset about.

Dare I also say it.....to the guy who threw all the abuse...pipe the **** down, it was an unnecessary post :-)
