Power Steering Pumps

Featured Replies

Slightly daft question I know but I was wanting to get a bit more clued up before taking it on.

The power steering on our 2011 1.2 (3 cyc) htp fabia has just recently started whiring and making the usual end of life noises and was wondering if it's actually possible to change just the pump or is it easier to change the full rack and pump together.

Sorted this on previous cars but only ask because after a quick scan on YouTube they only seem to change the rack and pump joined together but it seemed a bit odd to me.

Anyway, cheers for getting this far.

Had a quick look and it looks a million times easiesr to change just the pump but canny see where the pipes connect so unsure as to weather they disconnect easy or If it's a sealed unit.

2011 cars needing new steering pumps - OUCH!   I got off with out needing to replace the pump on wife's Polo and it was a late 2002 Polo, same manufacturer of steering gear as Skoda use and it had over 106K miles on it. I would have thought that there is a ready supply for reconditioned pumps now as that system is made by TRW and used across the VAG marques. Even the likes of ECP (guessing).

http://www.bba-reman.com/index.aspx?ShowCountry=true&RedirectUrl=/     maybe email BBA-REMAN as they no longer list VAG hydraulic steering pumps - but they used to!

From this illustration it would appear that the feed hose is a screw fitting into the pump assy, and the return hose has a spring-band clamp such as are used on water hoses.  May be worth acquiring a new o-ring (item 4) for the former.
