Service cost

Featured Replies

Just had my flexible service carried out and all wheels tracked due to odd tyrewear on my Superb 170 4x4 plus new pollen filter at a Skoda main dealer for £221.That is quite a bit less than the service cost alone in the UK. Very happy!!!

That plus 25 degrees and blue skies. It must be Spain!!

What was changed during the service?

A service and pollen filter can be had here in the UK for £139.

The air and fuel filter add another £80 to the bill if added separately (at least at my local dealer).

The Skoda dealers in Spain must be better equipped than here in the UK, not many franchised dealers would attempt to alter the tracking as they don't have the proper gear, most farm it out to a local specialist, hopefully one with a Hunter rig.

Oil+ FILTER £161 inc vat....have i been had?

It wont go again

ive got proper oil, skoda filters and a man with a workshop and stamp for my book

Oil and filter £132 for first variable and £142 for next one but it then include pollen filter. Simply haggle the price while booking it in. Both times included a car for me to drive.

Reference to Silver1011, the service cost is £259 for major service (flexible) plus a quote of around £75 for the wheel tracking, plus the pollen filter. That makes my Spanish service very cheap. The dealer here also has the latest equipment and also has showrooms for Audi, VW, and Seat.

Looks like it's cheaper to service in Ireland compared to UK.

Full Service is €240(~£170)

The last time wheel alignment costed me €50

It would appear that Ireland and Spain are pretty close on costs, my variable service was €250 and wheel alignment €50

It wont go again

With you on this. It is a total rip off. I had a cold call from my dealer about my car. I asked a few questions about price, parts and sat nav update but the caller was unable to assist. A promised a call back from the service dept. never happened.

VAG customer service seems more dealer focused than customer focused. I am not playing any more.

Seems like you all have lower prices than here in Sweden. I recently paid €380 for the first variable service, where they did oil (long life) and filter, and also the pollen filter.

The other authorized skoda service shops were even more expensive

I think ill ask why my oil change cost £161

On a related note, can anyone clarify exactly what should be performed at the 2 year mark? I had mine in at the dealer after the inspection warning appeared . They carried out an 'inspection service' which basically meant changing the oil, oil filter and pollen filter and telling me I needed new pads and discs ;) For which they charged £240

The only info I can find is this page http://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/service-and-maintenance/simply-fixed which suggests they've performed a minor service. When I questioned why major service wasn't performed they told me that this list only applies when the car is older than 3 years. Until then a print-out from the Skoda system tells them what needs to be done according to age/mileage...... All the service book mentions is oil+filter at 2years or 20,000

My car will get oil+filter at 15,000 (had it) and all filters+oil and pads checked at 30,000 at an independent workshop well able to do fleet services, i will provide oil and parts, i will check pads too though, i do fronts but not rears

That link is the same as the one in my post #4.

Dealers will charge you what they can get away with.

They are right in that the small print for the fixed servicing costs states for cars three years old and older. However the main dealers I have used have both volunteered these prices on my (at the time) one year old car and have continued to ever since.

They are also right in that all your car needed (according to Skoda's service requirements) was fresh oil and a new oil filter.

The thing is this is a minor (£139) service. So why did they charge you £259? Because they could.

It always pays to do your homework before ringing them up to book it in. It is on the phone where you need to be able to negotiate, not after picking the car up.

As your car has a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) they have to use the longlife (low ash) VW 507.00 oil. Nothing else will do.

This is another common excuse dealers use in an attempt to justify inflating the service costs.

"Ah, Sir, we used more expensive long life oil, this is why the cost of your service was higher than expected".

Absolute rubbish.

Is this that expensive longlife oil?

Environmental Charge for disposing of Oil & Filter really is a fraud.

Servicing a vehicle requires the Disposal of the Oil and Filter for every Garage / Workshop,

and this one that charged that never paid or will pay the £5 out for disposal of 4.3 Litres and a Filter. (& £1 VAT to HMRC)

As to Screen Wash, unless they filled your Washer Bottle because you never yourself,

the Unopened Bottle or the remainder of a Bottle should be in the car.

Washer bottle never empty, and no surplus in the car...

Yes, but it is slightly cheaper here, direct from Cardiff Audi...

Always interesting to see that they can source it, handle it, package it and ship it direct to my door for less than they charge to pour it directly into my engine.

As mentioned, never, ever pay more than £139 for an oil and filter change from a franchised Skoda main dealer.

My dealer will also replace the pollen filter for that price too.

I might have to have a word with them, or two **** off
