Candy White

Featured Replies

Anybody else think Skoda are being a bit cheeky calling this 'special solid' in order to charge for it?

I've had 3 Candy White Skodas from new and all were no cost option. Winds me up a little bit to be honest. What's next, paying for ANY colour !!

Wait long enough and it will be free.

It used to be a cost option on the MY15 Octavia but I have just purchased MY16 Octavia and it became a free option.

That's good to know. I have at least two years left in my car (even though I'm itching to pull the trigger on the new one) so perhaps it will be back to normal (free) by then.

Candy White and Laser White are both no cost options on Rep of Ireland ordered Superbs,  the only white with a charge of €673, is Moon White Metalic.

Solid, satin and metallic paints cost more or less the same. They overpriced a specific colour or not depending on the market or even depending on fashion trends. Some years ago Mercedes has solid white, blue and black as no cost colours. But shortly after that they only offered black; if you wanted a solid white Merc, you had to pay.

The same applies to different manufacturers. If you want a metallic black Superb, you have to pay 500 or 600 euros. But if you want a metallic black Audi A6, you have to pay more than 1.000 euros. And the colour is the same. Why don't they cost the same? Because one is Skoda and other is Audi :dull:

Even more frightening is the matt black painting. If you want for example a matt black Mercedes CLA, you have to pay a crazy amount for it. And matt black is actually cheaper than solid black. Nonsense.

What you probably don't appreciate is that not all the paint they put in gets used. There are litres and litres in the lines to what i assume are robotic sprayers. This is fine if your using the same paint colour but as soon as you switch colour the residual paint left in the lines is wasted. So less common paints will cost more due to the setup time and percentage waste, factor in overspray and Metalic flake aluminium oxides etc paints quite an expensive component.

But Candy White is a very common colour for and Skoda, here in Spain a great % of taxis are white Skodas. However it is more expensive :|

And a less common colour like Jungle Green costs the same than Bussiness Grey or Lava Blue, which are much more common. So why do they cost the same? Because the price is totally artificial.

I see that Skoda UK also charge £175 for Corrida Red, yet another no cost option for Rep of Ireland orders,   I wonder at the stg / €  exchange rate, and the difference in levels of spec, would it make it worthwhile for UK drivers wishing to order Superbs, to place orders in Ireland, as we seem to get confirmed build dates, within days of placing orders,   perhaps this is down to the number of build spaces  booked for Rep of Ireland.

Well UK buyers should now be able to reclaim the VRT (vehicle registration tax) which can be anything from 14% to 30+% on some cars, so could be an option in some cases.  It would be a bit of hassle between additional paperwork, re-registering in the UK, potential warranty issues etc.

My series 2 is Candy White and that was a no cost option 3 years ago...I agree they are taking the proverbial.

How long before they have the gaul to say that the standard model comes in primer (or worse!)

Can I ask...have you had any `issues` with it, being non metallic? I'm considering the colour you see.

I've had a Candy White Scirocco for 3 years.. only issue to report, birds like to **** on it !

Oh and to be clear, I mean real birds - in case you're wondering.

It's not a bad colour to go for though... but I wouldn't pay £500+ for it.

I've ordered my S3 in Candy White just because I didn't want the blue or red... or pay £500 for a metallic.

But you only get a 2 year warranty don’t you?

That plus the cost to import it and any extra insurance costs would far outweigh the £175.

The warranty will still be valid over here, but only for the 2 years Škoda offer (the 3rd year is covered by SUK)

I really don’t see the logic of not choosing a car’s colour just because there is a small (compared to the cost of the vehicle) cost for it.

Personally I spec a car the way I want it... if the total price is what I consider VFM then that’s all that matters, life is too short to buy a new car that is the ‘wrong’ colour just because it saves you a couple of hundred quid.

You make a lot of sense - however... mine is a company car and so there is a capped budget. Plus, I chose to spend the money on optional extras I can use from the comfort of my seat rather than paint!

Life is indeed too short... hence the need to make the best choices & set the right priorities! :)

Fair point, the colour would certainly be the 1st compromise when it was not my cash paying for it.

No issues at all, in fact I still like it very much.

My Yeti is Candy White and like it.

Plus point for me is that you can hardly see the stonechips at the front, unlike darker coloured cars I've had before.

Downside is that splattered insect blood and tar spots are more noticeable.
