Just sat in the L & K

Featured Replies

Only went into the dealer for a Fabia brochure .... wow, its really nice, was watching tv with the salesman, ended up switching to Jeremy Kyle :x

It seemed massive in the showroom, but the quality of the car can not be doubted, it was as good as anything from Audi or Merc. If i had managed to sell one of the kids then i would be driving it away :D

What colour interior did it have?

It had a brown (looked like it was ventilated) leather interior, it was the interior lighting that really set it off, the led's strips and the footwell and other lighting just made it look so different.

It will be the L & K that I get in a couple of years time.

I would love the L&K (have had two L&K Octavias in the past, before superb L&K was invented) but not sure I can justify L&K this time.

There are a couple of things that I would like which are cost options, and a handful of standard things that I will probably never use.

There is quite a long list of options (unlike the Octavias few years ago where there was only a couple, as L&K gave you virtually everything possible as standard)

My thoughts is it worth buying the SEL executive and adding the options I want to that instead.   I intend to keep the car for a good 6-8 years (I hope to retire in about 7 years so will buy new again then) , I'm wondering about the residuals.  I would never up-spec a car and increase its price above next model up as I assume trade in price will be based on standard spec.  Therefore my thoughts are to add what I would like as it will be with me for few years, and I should make my commute enjoyable by having the car fitted with what I want.

I have decided on petrol DSG (plenty of short journeys) and having the SEL Exec spec allows me the efficient 150 ACT engine (although I don't expect much on cylinder shut off on urban journeys), or should I have more fun and go for 220.  But that will cost me about £2500 more (including the extra £115 car tax each year) plus extra fuel.   The 150 engine has the dry plate DSG which has been problematic in the past, but I assume it is now fixed.

Would have considered the SE Business spec, but no petrol option.   However loads of manufacturers seem to be having a business spec, and I wonder if it will get a poor reputation in couple of years (as a lowly rep car, like a worn out Vectra of the 1990s) and thus residuals will be poor.

Go for the 220 John and enjoy yourself. Life's too short ....

One thing to be really careful of is the resale value of the SE Exec + Options compared to the L&K. None of the options you fit to the SE Exec will give you any benefit in a trade in, but they may in a private sale.

How negotiable are you on the Petrol v Diesel issue? On the basis that the Business is a bit of a bargain (unless you were intending to make use of Skoda finance) that would make most sense from the depreciation POV. Another option might to to wait a bit and get a "nearly new" L&K?

We've bought used cars because the the options were important, but we know that we are unusual. Generally it's better to buy the next model up the ladder, but this time even the L&K has a few

useful items missing from the std. spec.

Indeed - who would have thought you'd need to add £50 of heated washer nozzles to the top of the range model!! I know what you mean - I added quite a few to my L&K order...

Presumably if you sell privately, there is more residual value in options?

Mind you, after 7 years, the difference will be small as the whole car will only be worth about 20% of new price?

Btw, that's shocking on the heated nozzles. I'd expect that to be standard, even on SE!

I wouldn't be giving residuals a second thought if you plan to keep the car for 7 years.

I'd think that 20% would be a high number on a 7 year old, maybe more likely with a premium brand.

I traded an 8 year old 3.0 litre Ghix X Mondeo wagon for £2k last year, & that car, with it's options would have

cost app. £23.5 new.

(I wasn't too worried though, I paid £8,400 for it when it was 2 years old, so my annual depreciation was only £1,400!)

Much more fun than the diesels, just don't forget to pay extra for the paddles. "Adds to the driving enjoyment, says me & 'er indoors....)

Or, if you want a real "Q" car & your piggy-bank can take the strain, why not spring for the 280?

The extra grunt would be nice & the Haldex 4x4 would allow a scrabble-free departure from the starting grid, sorry, traffic lights.....

(P.S., my current 2.0 TSi does suffer from scrabble, & it's embarrassing!)

Has anyone got any pictures of the brown leather in the l&k? At Geneva last year I sat in a mk2 l&k and the seats were a horrible colour.

The printed brochure is now in the dealers & it does have pix of the brown leather.

Not for me, I'd choose the beige.

Yes, looks like the dog's done its business all over the upholstery :notme:

Agreed! Looks disgusting to me! And I've seen it in the flesh (and sat on it)...

Mrs didn't like the brown. I thought it looked ok. Seemed darker in bright light.

I have seen it and to be honest if the exterior colour is complimentary (say Cappuchino Beige), it looks ok.

WIth the beige it might work OK(ish) I suppose - or red? Clashes with Quartz Grey.

You blokes are way to knowledgeable about colour combinations.  ;)

If you like it, buy it. If you don't, don't.

Simples.

Will the beige seats not be a nightmare to keep clean?
