Fabia 03 high clutch pedal

Featured Replies

Hi All,

My lad has just picked up a Fabia 1.4 petrol and the clutch pedal is high.

Is this a hydraulic non adjustable clutch and means the clutch is at its end or can it be adjusted.

Cheers

Yeah, non-adjustable hydraulic.

Something to look out for - other models in the VAG range e.g. Lupo have a weak pedal box i.e. the sheet metal fabrication that bolts to the bulkhead and supports the pedals. When the metal and/or welds fail due to fatigue this can lead to the symptom described. The pedal box is not expensive, can sometimes be welded up in situ but is a royal pain to change out.

Cheers for the responses, will check the pedal box.

And will wait for it to start slipping before changing it as my lad is skint after paying £2100 for his insurance LOL

When you say the pedal is high, do you mean the clutch biting point, or that the pedal itself is physically higher than it should be?

I had the same problem with my old polo. It isnt too bad to do, but you do have to take most of the dash panels off. I just got the box rewelded. Only down side to it tho, is the reason the box was fatigued was because the clutch was on its way out. It is possible to put new clutch in yourself just a bit of a pig laying on your back under the car if you dont have a ramp you can use.

The problem won't be a broken pedal box, I can guarantee that the clutch is very worn out, my fabias was no nonexistent when I bought it, clutch was shafted and bite was about 2mm from top of pedal. You would know if the pedal box was gone as the pedal would go to the floor and stay there.

Just to confirm the bite of the clutch is at the top of the pedal travel, not the pedal is high.

As suspected, worn out clutch but wanted to be sure you could not adjust it. Cheers
