Wax for red car

Featured Replies

Hi guys and gals,

Just a quick one, I'm not new to the whole valeting gig but just wondered what do peeps use on there lovely red cars, I'm mainly an AutoBrite guy, but do use Topaz and vics concourse, Auto Finesse but that's about it.

My main thing is I was wondering about colour infused waxes, i.e Autobrites supercharged  colour enhancing canuba wax, I've never bothered before as I'm not sure it would make much difference.

Vics does a very good job on the red painwork but I'm just wondering what other people use to get a lovely wet look.

Cheers all.

Hey no worries - just have a read over what has been covered.

It may or may not help answer the question....

Otherwise - feel free to continue the thread...

Just to add ........

It's worth mentioning that the use of colour charged wax will make no difference, as most cars are clear lacquer coated anyway

best place to start is budget. How much are you willing to pay?

Then the very knowledgable people on here can recommend loads im sure...

To be honest money wise is prob up to about £50 as already have Zymol concourse wax and wolfgang fusion wax which are my expensive ones.

Cheers

Loads in the price range.

What you looking for from the wax? Looks? Durability? Water behaviour?

Red is one of my favourite colours and looks fantastic when freshly polished, sealed and waxed

You already have some good waxes

I would polish it, degrease with IPA or Carpro Eraser, then use a good sealant.many to choose from....I use Bilt Hamber Autobalm

Then wax over after an hour or two

Loads in the price range.

Good question Ben....

To be honest - if the OP has Vic's Concours - he is already achieving a really good wet look.

To improve on this might be more in the paint prep before waxing - polishing/refining, etc???

Many Nidger can share a bit more detail.

I was going to say, you have some of the best waxes for obtaining a wet look to the paintwork. Here's what I would look at doing:

  • Refine the paintwork with a finishing polish if you have a machine.
  • Try applying a glaze underneath, Prima Amigo would be perfect and really deepens the look. It isn't heavy on fillers though, if you have really swirly paint.
  • Layer your waxes, I've heard that 3 layers of Vic Concourse looks amazing.

HTH buddy.

Cheers guys, main thing for me now is yes wet look but durability.

I think my main area where I'm a bit blah is the prep work, in all honesty I don't normally glaze, and I don't layer as the result is normally good on one application, perhaps this is where I'm going wrong I'll slap a couple of layers on.

I think I'll strip it all off aswell and start a fresh, my reason for this post is I've never had a red car ive always seemed to have dark cars and wondered what peeps are putting on their red cars.

Cheers

I've had good results from Bilt hamber Double Speed or Finis Wax on red as well as BMD Morpheus.

You could get full tubs of both the bilt hamber waxes or a sample pot of the Morpheus in your price range.

My go to combo at the moment is Tac systems Ceramic coat with 3 layers followed by bilt hamber double speed with 2 layers.

But I would say 90% is in the prep work, you want a wet look you need to compound, refine and jewel the paint to perfection!*

*depending on the condition

Think I'll strip it all off and get the orbital out then lol.

Might give some Bilt Hamber a go.
