Fuel gauge reading backwards

Featured Replies

As per the title, when the tank is full it reads empty and when it's empty it reads full. Any idea what could be going wrong as this isn't ideal  :D

Have you recently changed anything? Fuel pump? Instrument cluster?

Have you configured your car to run on anti-matter?

Curious. Surely it will just be a matter of a sensor/gauge being incorrectly wired up as it's clearly functional.

Apparently the Fuel pump was changed to a VW unit by the previous owner, could this be causing this?

Has it always read wrong for you, or just started?

The gauge sender changed at some point to work the other way round, I seem to remember. Which is OK if your instrument cluster is 'expecting' it, but not if it isn't.

Have a look at this thread for similar oddness and some ideas about why it's happening (unresolved, unfortunately).

I only bought the car 2 weeks ago and this was noted in the sale
