£15 Dashcam - at Harvest Energy petrol stations

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Been after a Dashcam for ages but could never really justify the cost.

Filled up with diesel the other day at my nearest petrol station and they are selling these for £15. It's not a discounted sale with a fuel purchase either.

It says it will do 640x480 (though why anyone would want that I don't know), and 720p and 1080p. I've got it set to 720 for the time being.

It might turn out to be not very good, but at that price I thought I'd give it a try. Plus, now I've got a Dashcam I can always say to swmbo in future that I just want to upgrade it!

Do you know what model it is?

Any example pictures of the footage?

For £15 it's worth a go really!

The camera looks exactly like this one at Argos

But the mount is more compact that the one pictured. When I've done a few journeys I'll try to post up some test footage. Didn't there used to be a specific section on the forum for car cams? I can't seem to find it any more?

yes, it looks like that.

I've reviewed some of the early footage on my laptop, and if that 720pHD then I'll eat my hat. I'll double check that for some reason it hasn't dropped back to 640x480, and I'll also try 1080p to see what thats like.

Yep, I bet the sensor is actually 720x480 and it's just upscaled.

I bought one from eBay and the screen fell off 3 days later. Don't bother

I bought one from ebay, it's fine, except that the date/time feature stopped working............

Actually, the picture quality was perfectly adequate for its purpose, it's still installed in one of the cars, better than nothing, I suppose, but it does need replacing.

The footage I've gathered so far really isn't worth putting up here. In daylight its very grainy and you can't make out any number plates. It's just about better than nothing, and at £15 it's ok. It would do you ok if some numpty pulled out in front of you and caused an accident.

At night time, on lit and unlit roads, it's practically useless.

Still it was worth a go, and as I said, better than nothing. Just.

I guess the footage the same quality as below?

Yeah, similar to that during the day.

Now looking for a deal on a 3rd gen 0806.......

Hmmm, think I'll pass. I need to find something a bit better for my GF's car.

I can't see how to embed the video like the clip shown above...

When you paste the video link, make sure it's http:// and not https://

The forum will then pick up the video and embed it :)

That's pretty abysmal. It might show who was at fault in a crash, but isn't any use for identifying a vehicle or driver.

By way of a contrast, here's the first lot of footage from my new 0806:

edit: It doesn't look its best on YouTube because of their video compression etc. But in native form (MOV) it's pretty good.

I'd dismiss this on the grounds that it's super megafugly.
