Virus software for windows XP x64 edition

Featured Replies

I am using XP Pro x64 on my new athlon 64 pc, I have everything all running nicely. I need to download a 64bit AV solution as 32bit ones dont work well on x64. There is a free one out there but I cant for the life of me remember whats its called. I dont think its AVG.

I'd be interested in this as well.

Got XP64 sat here waiting to install it.

Oh , and do you know if XP64 has support and drivers for S-ATA drives on the disk now or do I need to faff around with making a driver floppy first?

Regular (32-bit) antivirus applications are unable to operate correctly on the 64-bit Windows platform because they rely on 32-bit kernel-mode drivers. The new avast! uses native 64-bit drivers, delivering the same level of protection as in the 32-bit Windows environments. The installation package is the same for 32-bit and 64-bit versions - the setup program automatically detects the operating system it is running on, and installs all necessary files

Seems to do it then and it's free for home and non-commercial use.

Also; CA eTrust has a 64 bit version; Nod 32 has a 64bit. Version 2.51.8; Bit Defender 8; symantec antivirus 10 64-bit version.

Most reviewers seem to rate the Avast above the others though....

Dr. Z' date=' you still need to faff around creating the driver floppy 1st.

Right , time to nip round to my mums to use her PC with a floppy drive in it then.

Thanks
